Does abortion curettage hurt?

In real life, people have to have abortions for various reasons. As we all know, abortion can be divided into medical abortion and surgical abortion, and some people even need a curettage. If you do abortion with curettage, it will cause certain harm to the female body. In addition, curettage surgery is divided into painless curettage and ordinary curettage. Ordinary curettage will definitely be painful. Regardless of the type of curettage, everyone needs to pay attention to postoperative care.

Does curettage hurt?

Curettage and dilation is a procedure to scrape out the endometrium or uterine cavity contents. A minor surgery commonly performed in obstetrics and gynecology is one of the methods of abortion. There are two types of curettage: ordinary curettage and painless curettage. If you do an ordinary curettage, there will be some pain, but this pain is bearable. If you are afraid of pain, you can have a painless uterine curettage. But it should be noted that even with a painless curettage, some women will still feel pain due to different physical conditions. So, curettage is painful, but the degree of pain varies from person to person.

Curettage has very low risks and can stop bleeding and help diagnose diseases including infection, cancer, infertility, and other conditions. Normally, once the patient feels well enough (usually the same day), they can resume normal activities. If vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal cramps and back pain persist for several days after the operation, you can take painkillers to relieve the pain. The use of internal menstrual tampons is not recommended within a few weeks, and sexual intercourse is not recommended within a few days.

What are the dangers of curettage?

1. Cervical or endometrial adhesion

During uterine dilatation and curettage, if the scraping is too rough, causing injury or inflammation of the cervix or endometrium, it is possible to cause postoperative cervical or endometrial adhesions and cause menstrual abnormalities, such as amenorrhea or too little menstrual flow.

2. Incomplete abortion

If the operation is not performed completely, a small amount of fetal tissue will remain in the uterus, which may affect uterine contractions and cause continuous bleeding or adhesion, infection, etc. It is best to perform another careful surgery to remove the remaining tissue.

What should I pay attention to after curettage?

1. Pay attention to rest and strengthen nutrition. After the curettage, you should rest in bed for 2 to 3 days, then you can get out of bed and move around, gradually increasing the time you spend on activities. Do not engage in heavy physical labor and avoid contact with cold water within half a month after curettage.

2. Keep the vulva clean and hygienic, and avoid sexual intercourse. After curettage, the cervix has not yet closed and the endometrium also has a repair process. During this period, special attention should be paid to keeping the vulva clean and hygienic. Do not take a bath in a tub within half a month after the operation to prevent unclean water from entering the vagina, leading to bacterial invasion and infection. Avoid sexual intercourse within one month after curettage.

3. Observe the bleeding situation and prevent the condition from getting worse. If vaginal bleeding lasts for more than one week after curettage, and is accompanied by lower abdominal pain, fever, turbid and foul-smelling leucorrhea, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time.

4. Abdominal pain may occur due to uterine contraction after the operation, and most of the time it will be relieved in about half an hour to an hour. If severe abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding with large blood clots, and high fever occur after a few hours or days, you should go to the hospital immediately.
