What to do if your teeth shift

What to do if your teeth shift

Tooth displacement refers to the complete eruption of teeth, which will reach the occlusal plane. However, if the periodontal supporting tissue is damaged, the teeth will often shift up and down. When this happens, you should go to the hospital for examination in time. If there is inflammation, you should take anti-inflammatory measures in time, and repair the teeth in time. Some corrective methods can be used to improve tooth displacement.

What to do if your teeth shift

1. Tooth displacement caused by periodontitis should be treated as soon as possible and professional systematic periodontal treatment should be carried out to completely eliminate the inflammation around the teeth and prevent further aggravation of tooth displacement. And regular review is required. Some loose and displaced front teeth may be bonded together and fixed to increase overall stability and restore to their original position, depending on the specific situation. 2. Tooth displacement caused by bite problems should be examined and diagnosed by a professional dentist and then treated accordingly. If accompanied by periodontitis, periodontal system treatment should be carried out first, and methods such as tooth grinding, orthodontic treatment, and loose tooth fixation should be adopted to solve the bite problem.

3. The sooner tooth displacement caused by trauma is fixed and treated, the better. Mildly displaced teeth can generally be restored to health after fixation. For moderately to severely displaced teeth or teeth that have fallen out due to trauma, symptoms related to pulpitis will generally appear after a period of time after fixation. Therefore, regular check-ups should be conducted and any problems should be dealt with in a timely manner.

The main factors causing tooth displacement

1. Destruction of periodontal supporting tissues The normal position of teeth in the dental arch depends on healthy periodontal supporting tissues. In patients with periodontal disease, the alveolar bone around the root of the tooth is absorbed, the supporting tissue is reduced, and the bite force applied to the tooth is unbalanced, causing the tooth to shift in the direction of the force. Periodontal granulation tissue can also cause the affected teeth to elongate or shift. 2. Changes in bite force. Normal contact with adjacent teeth, good tooth morphology and cusp inclination, integrity of dentition, balance between bite force and the lip, cheek and tongue muscles around the teeth, long-term bad biting habits and other changes in the various forces applied to the teeth are important factors that cause tooth displacement. The most common example is that after a tooth is lost, there is no restorative treatment for a long time, which can cause the adjacent teeth to tilt toward the gap between the missing teeth, the opposing teeth to elongate, and the teeth to shift. 3. Dental trauma: External impact on the maxillofacial area or biting hard objects may cause tooth displacement, which is more common in the front teeth.
