One week of spotting in early pregnancy

One week of spotting in early pregnancy

The early stages of pregnancy are the most critical period for women, because if they cannot protect themselves well, miscarriage is likely to occur. Women in the early stages of pregnancy are in a stage of immature fetal development and are easily affected by many factors, which may lead to miscarriage. Therefore, in the early stages of pregnancy, women must pay attention to changes in their bodies at all times. So what does it mean if you see spotting for a week during early pregnancy?

Bloody discharge in early pregnancy refers to a small amount of bloody discharge from the vagina within 12 weeks of pregnancy, similar to the amount of bleeding at the beginning or end of menstruation.

symptom

The bleeding may be pink, red, or brown in color. About 1/4 of pregnant women will experience varying degrees of spotting in the early stages of pregnancy, and about half of them will eventually miscarry.

If the blood is brown, expectant mothers do not need to worry too much. Brown blood means that the bleeding has stopped, so it will oxidize into brown. Just get more rest and avoid exercise. If the blood is bright red, you should be careful and go to the hospital for treatment immediately; if the vaginal discharge is brown, it is recommended to rest in bed. Generally speaking, bleeding can be improved, but whether the blood is brown or bright red, you must let your doctor know so that you can provide timely assistance.

Reasons and suggestions

1. Implantation bleeding. When the fertilized egg implants in the uterine wall, you may experience slight bleeding for a day or two. Implantation of the fertilized egg occurs 6 to 7 days after fertilization, or even about 10 days.

Recommendation: Regardless of the color of the blood, if abnormal bleeding occurs once a day, you must rest in bed for three days, avoid sit-ups and other exercises that involve the abdomen, and avoid holding urine, constipation and other situations that will increase intra-abdominal pressure.

2. Threatened abortion. Fetal chromosomal abnormalities, congenital uterine developmental abnormalities and acquired defects, immune system problems, infections and other factors can easily cause miscarriage.

Recommendation: More than half of miscarriages may be caused by abnormalities in the embryo itself. Because humans have the ability to self-eliminate, if the pregnancy can continue, most fetuses are normal.

3. Ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, abnormal vaginal bleeding will occur at 7-8 weeks of pregnancy, and there may even be severe abdominal pain or shock due to massive intra-abdominal bleeding. The possibility of ectopic pregnancy needs to be considered.

Recommendation: In the early stages of pregnancy, if ultrasound examination fails to detect the presence of an embryo in the uterus, a test should be performed to confirm the diagnosis and appropriate treatment should be given in real time.

4. Hydatidiform mole. Hydatidiform mole may cause abnormal vaginal bleeding, severe morning sickness, and even heart palpitations in the early stages of pregnancy.

Recommendation: The treatment is to remove the hydatidiform mole by endometrial vacuum aspiration, and then track the chorionic gonadotropin index until it is normal for 3 consecutive weeks, and then track it again every month until it is normal for 6 consecutive months. If the index does not drop ideally, consider using chemotherapy. Strict contraception must be followed during the follow-up period, and pregnancy planning should be started after one year.

5. Cervical polyps, erosions or cervical lesions. When it comes to early pregnancy bleeding, many people tend to ignore the problem of the cervix. If the cervix becomes severely inflamed and erodes, or if there are already cervical polyps, it is easy for the surface capillaries to rupture due to changes in pregnancy hormones.

Recommendation: Cervical smear tests should be done regularly before and after pregnancy; if there is bleeding in early pregnancy, the cervix should also be checked to see if there is any problem.
