Cervical myofasciitis

Cervical myofasciitis

Bad habits can lead to the occurrence of cervical spondylosis, and cervical myofasciitis is one of the more common phenomena. The occurrence of this disease is related to many reasons, among which cervical myofasciitis caused by chronic strain is relatively common. In addition, cervical myofasciitis can also be caused by dislocation of cervical facet joints or acute trauma. Regardless of the cause, it should be treated promptly.

Causes:

1. History of acute trauma: Acute soft tissue trauma of the neck has occurred during work or activities, which has not been treated in time or has not been treated thoroughly, leaving hidden dangers and forming trigger points.

2. Chronic strain: This disease is common in people who work with their heads bent over a desk for a long time, such as accountants, writers, inspectors, computer programmers, typists, etc. Chronic strain can occur over time due to long hours of desk work, less activity, or being in a single specific posture for a long time, or continuous weight bearing on the shoulders and excessive fatigue.

3. Predisposing factors: In addition to the basic factors of traumatic history and chronic strain, the following predisposing factors are often overlooked. (1) Mechanical pressure: such as an imperfect body structure, including abnormal cervical curvature, dislocation of small joints, abnormal biting habits, and imbalance of muscle strength, which lead to long-term compression of muscles. (2) Systemic factors: including unbalanced nutrition, insufficient minerals such as iron, calcium and potassium, neuroendocrine dysfunction, metabolic abnormalities, poor sleep quality, etc. (3) Psychological factors: such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and chronic anxiety. (4) Environmental factors: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that cold and dampness are also triggering factors. People who seek coolness in the hot summer, lie in the open air in the wind, or rush to the breeze or shower after strenuous activities, or work underwater or outdoors for a long time, or wade through water in the rain, live in dark and damp places, or experience unpredictable climates with alternating hot and cold weather, or dress carelessly, etc., may be attacked by wind, cold and dampness, which may block the meridians and hinder the circulation of qi and blood. This will cause pain and seriously affect the nutrition and metabolism of muscle fascia.

diagnosis:

1. A cord-like object can be felt on the affected area. After kneading and pressing, the patient will feel comfortable or the symptoms will be relieved.

2. Laboratory tests may reveal an increase in blood count, but X-ray examinations usually show no abnormalities.

3. The intervertebral foramen compression test, venous compression test and brachial plexus traction test were all negative; the tendon reflex test was normal, but the extension and contraction activities of the cervical and dorsal muscles were limited, and the muscles were spasmodic and stiff.

4. The diagnosis of this disease should be differentiated from cervical muscle strain, cervical and shoulder muscle strain and cervical spondylosis.

Medication treatment:

(I) Over-the-counter drug selection

1. Ibuprofen tablets (ibuprofen, ibuprofen) for adults 0.2 grams each time. If symptoms do not improve, the medication can be repeated once every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 0.8 grams within 24 hours. This product has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and is mostly used in the acute phase. Patients with renal insufficiency, hypertension, heart failure, peptic ulcer, hemophilia or other bleeding diseases must consult a physician or pharmacist before use. If liver and kidney damage, gastrointestinal bleeding, hearing impairment, abnormal blood count, etc. occur during medication, the medication should be stopped immediately.

2. For adults, take 0.3 grams of Ibuprofen sustained-release capsules (Fenbid), twice a day. This product has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. For other matters, see ibuprofen tablets.

3. Ketoprofen (Eprofen, Ketoprofen, Ketoprofen) for adults: 50 to 100 mg each time, twice a day, after meals. This product has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects, and is characterized by high efficiency and low toxicity. Use with caution in patients with ulcers.

4. For adults, take 0.3 to 0.6 grams of aspirin tablets each time. If symptoms do not improve, repeat the dose once every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 2 grams within 24 hours. This product has the effect of antipyretic and analgesic. This drug is contraindicated for those who are allergic to it, the elderly and weak, or those with a body temperature above 40°C. It should be used with caution in those with gout, decreased liver and kidney function, heart failure, nose bleeding, a history of hemolytic anemia, and heavy menstruation. Do not drink alcohol while taking this product.

5. For adults, take 0.5 to 1 gram of Benoryl ester tablets (Pendulum) three times a day. This product is a new type of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic drug, and can also be used to treat rheumatism. Use with caution in patients with impaired liver and kidney function and a history of severe gastrointestinal ulcers. The dosage should be reduced for the elderly.

(II) Selection of common prescription drugs

1. Adults take 1 tablet of painkiller once a day or as directed by a doctor. This product can only provide temporary pain relief.

2. Indomethacin (Indomethacin): Adults take 25 mg each time, 2 to 3 times a day. If necessary, it can be increased to 100 to 150 mg per day, taken in 3 to 4 times. Take during or after meals. This product is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic drug with obvious anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects. Due to its high incidence of adverse reactions, it is generally not suitable for long-term use. Use with caution in the elderly, patients with renal impairment, hemorrhagic diseases, epilepsy, and mental illness. It is contraindicated for use by pregnant women, breastfeeding women, children under 14 years old, people with peptic ulcers, and those who are allergic to aspirin.

3. Diclofenac sodium (diclofenac sodium, diclofenac sodium, Olfen) for adults: 25 mg each time, 3 times a day, after meals. This product is a new type of powerful anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic and anti-rheumatic drug, which can be used to treat various types of arthritis, soft tissue injuries and other rheumatic diseases. Use with caution in patients with liver and kidney damage and a history of gastrointestinal ulcers. It is not recommended to use during the first 3 months of pregnancy or if you have a history of aspirin allergy.
