Chronic pyelonephritis:

Symptoms and signs

1. More common in women.

2. The patient often has a history of recurrent pyelonephritis.

3. Clinical manifestations are often atypical, complex and changeable. Chronic pyelonephritis is characterized by easy relapse. The following 5 types are common:

(1) Recurrent type: often with multiple acute attacks, with symptoms of systemic infection, urinary tract irritation and urine changes, similar to acute pyelonephritis, and positive urine bacterial culture.

(2) Low-grade fever: The main symptom is long-term low-grade fever, which may be accompanied by fatigue, back pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, etc. There are no symptoms of urinary tract irritation, but there is bacteriuria.

(3) Hematuria type: In a minority of cases, paroxysmal hematuria is the main symptom, presenting as microscopic or macroscopic hematuria, accompanied by low back pain, soreness, and urinary tract irritation symptoms, and positive urine bacterial culture.

(4) Latent type: There are no systemic or local symptoms, only urine changes and positive urine bacterial culture, also known as asymptomatic bacteriuria.

(5) Hypertension type: Hypertension occurs during the course of the disease and may occasionally develop into rapid hypertension, often accompanied by anemia, but without obvious proteinuria, edema, or urinary tract irritation symptoms.

In addition to the above types, sodium-losing nephropathy, potassium-losing nephropathy, renal tubular acidosis and renal insufficiency may also occur in a few cases.

Through the above introduction, we have a good understanding of chronic pyelonephritis, so when treating such a disease, we can follow the above methods. However, it should be noted that when treating such a disease, we must also pay attention to our own diet. The food of this type of patient should be light, which is conducive to the treatment of the disease.
