Physical cooling for children with fever

Physical cooling for children with fever

If you find that your child has a fever in daily life, it is quite common. We can relieve the symptoms of fever in children by using physical cooling methods. Timely use of cooling methods can effectively prevent children from burning their brains due to high temperatures, so we must develop good common sense in daily life and cool down and relieve symptoms for children with fever in a timely manner. If you find that your body temperature persists and cannot be relieved, you can go to the hospital in time for a doctor's examination.

The most common cooling method in daily life is to use cold water to cool down. It is best not to use ice cubes to cool down. This is because the temperature difference between ice and the human body is too great, so other complications may occur due to the alternating hot and cold caused by the ice.

1. Cold wet compress on the head: Soak a soft towel in 20℃ - 30℃ cold water, squeeze it slightly to prevent dripping, fold it and place it on the forehead, change it every 3-5 minutes.

2. Head ice pillow: Fill the ice bag half full with small ice cubes and a small amount of water, expel the air from the bag, press the bag opening tightly, and place it on the pillow after there is no water leakage.

3. Wipe with warm water or take a warm bath: Wipe the child's head, armpits , limbs with a warm and wet towel or take a warm bath, scrub the skin more to promote heat dissipation.

4. Alcohol bath: suitable for cooling down high fever. Prepare 200-300 ml of 20%-35% alcohol and use it to rub the limbs and back.

5. Drink plenty of water and don’t take any medicine casually. When the fever is high, breathing speeds up and sweating causes the body to lose a lot of water. Therefore, parents should give their children plenty of water when they have a fever, increase urine volume, and promote the excretion of toxins in the body.

It is generally not advisable to use drugs to reduce fever in neonates; for fever caused by general infections in infants and young children, it is best to use appropriate physical cooling measures first. However, it is not advisable to use cold compresses and alcohol baths to cool down children with rash diseases such as measles, so as to avoid irritating the skin and affecting the outbreak of the rash.

In addition to learning to use physical cooling methods to relieve children's fever symptoms, we should also promptly detect any discomfort in the child. Giving your children enough care will allow you to do adequate preventive work against diseases. You should also insist on exercising at home, which can greatly enhance your immunity and keep you away from diseases.
