Causes of thrombocytopenia during pregnancy

Causes of thrombocytopenia during pregnancy

The main components of blood are red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The role of platelets in the blood is coagulation. If there are too few platelets, the coagulation function will be greatly reduced, which is also the sepsis that we often hear about. When pregnant women undergo various prenatal examinations, some corresponding routine indicators should also be checked. But during routine examination, I found that the platelet count in my body was much lower than before. What's going on?

Causes of thrombocytopenia during pregnancy

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP for short), which is subcutaneous bleeding caused by unexplained thrombocytopenia, is a common autoimmune thrombocytopenic disease. The incidence of pregnancy complicated with ITP is 3.0‰ to 8.4‰.

Pregnant mothers generally experience bleeding in the skin and mucous membranes, with visible bleeding spots on the body surface, or subcutaneous bleeding in patches that form purple spots, bleeding from the gums and mouth when brushing teeth, or blood in the stool or urine, etc. Repeated bleeding may cause anemia. If a pregnant mother finds subcutaneous bleeding spots or mucosal bleeding on her body, she should not be careless and should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

1. Tell your doctor your medical history and take prednisone orally 2 weeks before delivery to increase the platelet count, block the bleeding tendency in the fetus, and reduce the amount of bleeding during delivery.

2. Avoid trauma and infection, both of which will increase the consumption of platelets.

3. Do not use drugs or examinations that damage platelets, such as sulfonamides, aspirin, or undergo X-ray examinations.

4. You should be hospitalized one week before the due date to prepare for delivery and reduce the risks during delivery.

5. After giving birth, you need to stay in the hospital for a period of time so that the doctor can observe and treat the condition of both mother and baby.

6. Pregnant women should use contraception after giving birth. It is not advisable to have a second child or use contraceptive rings.

7. Avoid breastfeeding your baby to prevent the mother's antiplatelet antibodies and drugs from entering the baby's body through breast milk and causing harm to the baby.

What should you pay attention to during early pregnancy

1. Don’t do strenuous exercise.

During pregnancy, pregnant mothers need to maintain proper exercise. However, in the early stages of pregnancy, the development of the fetus is unstable and the mother's physical condition is also unstable. At this time, the mother should not engage in strenuous exercise to avoid miscarriage.

2. Pay attention to personal hygiene.

For women who have just become pregnant, due to changes in their bodies and increased demand for nutrition, their metabolism will be very fast and their vaginal secretions will increase, making them vulnerable to bacterial invasion. Therefore, after entering the pregnancy period, pregnant mothers should pay special attention to their own hygiene, take a bath frequently, and change underwear frequently.

3. Dress appropriately.

In the early stages of pregnancy, pregnant mothers should wear soft and loose clothing, avoid wearing a waist corset, tight pants, or high heels. Otherwise, miscarriage may easily occur. Moreover, high heels can cause leg fatigue in pregnant mothers, which is not good for their health.

4. Do a good job of inspection.

If bleeding occurs in early pregnancy, it may be due to a variety of reasons such as ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, and fatigue. These are all things that you should not be careless about. You should go to the hospital for a check-up immediately. If a pregnant mother experiences bleeding or other miscarriage symptoms in the early stages of her pregnancy, after going to the hospital for examination to rule out ectopic pregnancy, she should follow the doctor's instructions and do a good job of protecting the fetus.
