Causes of lower limb edema

Causes of lower limb edema

Lower limb edema, which we usually call edema, is a common limb disease. Lower limb edema can seriously affect a person's life and physical health. It can be said that lower limb edema can cause great harm to human health. Therefore, if there is a problem of lower limb edema, it must be adjusted in time to reduce the harm caused by lower limb edema to the body.

To treat the problem of lower limb edema, we must first look at the factors that cause lower limb edema. Under normal circumstances, malnutrition or congenital edema are also key causes of lower limb edema. Of course, the causes of lower limb edema can be said to be multifaceted.

1. The characteristic of cardiogenic edema is that it first appears in the sagging parts of the body, and there are other manifestations of right heart failure, such as distended neck veins, enlarged liver, increased venous pressure, and in severe cases, chest and abdominal effusions may occur.

2. The characteristic of nephrogenic edema is eyelid and facial edema when getting up in the morning in the early stage of the disease, which later develops into systemic edema (severe edema in nephrotic syndrome). There are often symptoms of urine changes, hypertension, and renal impairment.

3. Hepatic edema is mainly manifested as ascites, and may first appear in the ankles and gradually spread upward, while the head, face and upper limbs are often free of edema. The clinical signs of cirrhosis mainly include decreased liver function and portal hypertension.

4. The characteristics of malnutrition edema are that there are often symptoms such as emaciation and weight loss before edema occurs. The reduction of subcutaneous fat causes tissue relaxation and lower tissue pressure, which aggravates the retention of edema fluid. Edema often starts in the feet and spreads throughout the body.

The above factors are some common causes of lower limb edema. In fact, if you already have the problem of lower limb edema and don’t know what caused it, the best thing to do is to go directly to the hospital for a comprehensive examination so that you can be better responsible for your own health.
