Treatment of mumps

Treatment of mumps

Mumps is a relatively common disease. Generally, patients become ill through contact with saliva, blood or other substances of patients with mumps. These substances contain mumps viruses, and once contacted, it is very easy to be infected. It can be seen that if you want to prevent mumps, the first thing to do is to avoid contact with mumps patients.

The main symptom of mumps patients during the illness is swelling and pain in the parotid glands. Patients need to move their parotid glands when eating, and they will experience pain at this time, so patients should receive treatment as soon as possible.

Mumps is abbreviated as mumps, commonly known as mumps. It is prevalent in all seasons, but is most common in winter and spring. It is a common respiratory infectious disease in children and adolescents. It is an acute, systemic infection caused by the mumps virus, characterized by swelling and pain in the parotid glands, and sometimes other salivary glands may also be involved. Common complications include viral encephalitis, orchitis, pancreatitis and oophoritis.

Mumps virus belongs to the family Paramyxoviridae. The patient is the source of infection, and the main routes of transmission are direct contact, droplets, and inhalation of saliva. The disease occurs 2 to 3 weeks after contact with the patient. The prodromal symptoms of mumps are relatively mild, mainly manifested as swelling on one or both sides with the earlobe as the center, moving forward, backward and downward. The swollen parotid gland is often hemispherical with unclear edges, hot surface and tenderness. Disappears in 7 to 10 days. This disease is a self-limiting disease. There is currently a lack of effective drugs, and antibiotic treatment is ineffective. The prognosis is generally good.

The incubation period ranges from 8 to 30 days, with an average of 18 days. The onset is usually acute, with no prodromal symptoms. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, myalgia, sore throat, poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, general discomfort, etc. The parotid glands become swollen and painful over several hours and gradually become more obvious. The body temperature may reach above 39°C.

The disease of mumps is divided into several types, which are mainly distinguished by the cause. Once a mumps patient is discovered, he must be treated immediately, otherwise it is easy to cause other complications. For example, men are prone to orchitis, and women are more likely to suffer from oophoritis. It can be seen that the harm is very great if not treated in time.
