Treatment for inflamed toenails

Treatment for inflamed toenails

Paronychia often occurs among teenagers or women. Most women like to wear high heels, but they don’t know that wearing high heels for a long time will put pressure on the toes for a long time, causing the skin in the nail groove to be pierced by the toenails and induce paronychia. Teenagers like to play football, or bump into things during sports, which can cause damage to their toes. In addition, their own carelessness can affect the nail bed and cause paronychia.

Treatment:

1. Antibiotics or anti-inflammatory analgesics

It can be taken orally, injected intravenously or applied externally. It can effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria, relieve pain and swelling, has a certain anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and is relatively easy to use.

2. Iodine tincture smear and soak

As long as there is any slight injury or damage to the toe, apply or soak the affected toe with iodine 4 to 6 times a day for 15 to 20 minutes each time until the skin turns white. The disinfecting effect of iodine will corrode the diseased skin tissue and allow it to regrow to prevent paronychia.

3. Surgical nail removal, incision and drainage

Make a longitudinal incision along the angle of the nail root on the affected side. If it is complete paronychia, make a longitudinal incision on each side, and the proximal end should not exceed the plane of the base of the nail bed. If accompanied by subungual pus, while draining the paronychia, the nail should be removed, the pus drained, and the nail should be covered with vaseline gauze and then bandaged. For subungual pus only at the root of the nail, partial onychotomy and drainage can be performed, and the nail root can be lifted up and cut off.

4. External application of Chinese medicine

Mix paronychia powder with honey evenly. If there is no wound, apply the medicine to the red and swollen area about 0.5 cm away, bandage it with gauze, once a day. Avoid spicy food during treatment.
