What are the symptoms of excavated folliculitis

I don’t know what’s wrong with my husband recently, but a lot of red rashes have appeared on his skin. I didn’t take it seriously at first, but it got worse after a few days. Then I bought some dermatitis cream, but the effect was not obvious. My neighbor next door said that these are symptoms of folliculitis, and it is excavating folliculitis. I have never heard of this disease before, so I want to learn more about it. Thank you.

Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Folliculitis is an inflammation caused by pyogenic cocci invading the area around the hair follicle opening and is limited to the upper part of the hair follicle. It is divided into two types: purulent and non-purulent. It is more common in patients with low immunity or diabetes, and is prone to occur on the head and neck. Folliculitis initially presents as a red, solid rash, which rapidly develops into papules and pustules, which then dry up and form scars, and the scabs fall off without leaving any traces. The rashes are numerous but not fused, and cause itching or mild pain. Folliculitis often occurs in the hairy areas of adults; in children, it often occurs in the hair areas, and small patches of baldness may remain after healing. Patients should avoid physical stimulation and pay attention to eating less alcohol and sour, spicy and other irritating foods. Those with recurrent attacks should eat less greasy food, eat more vegetables and fruits, increase vitamins, and keep bowel movements smooth. At the same time, pay attention to personal hygiene, strengthen physical exercise, and enhance disease resistance.

The first thing to do in treating folliculitis is to keep the skin clean and hygienic, while avoiding irritation such as scratching. Especially the head, because it has a lot of hair, abundant sebaceous glands and sweat glands, and more excretions, so it should be kept clean and hygienic. Patients should try to eat less irritating food and animal fat, and maintain bowel movements every day. If you are a diabetic patient, you should seek timely treatment to prevent the onset of folliculitis.

Local therapy: When skin lesions occur, avoid washing the affected area with water and avoid scratching. The hair in the affected area should be cut short. Bactericidal and antipruritic drugs such as hair lotion can be applied locally. Patients with exudation can apply 0.1% rivanol solution wet compresses 3 to 4 times a day for 20 minutes each time. After the inflammation is relieved, 2% chloramphenicol emulsion, 0.5% neomycin ointment and 3% iodine tincture can be applied externally.

Hello, the above is the relevant knowledge about excavating folliculitis, you can learn about it, as well as the methods of treatment. However, it is best to go to the hospital, so that you can have a more comprehensive understanding, and the treatment you get will be better and you will recover faster. Finally, I wish you and your loved ones good health.
