Why do joints hurt after drinking?

Why do joints hurt after drinking? In real life, many friends will find themselves experiencing joint pain after drinking alcohol, especially in the summer after eating barbecue and drinking beer, the joint pain will be very obvious. In fact, this is mainly due to gout. You must know that barbecue and beer are some of the necessary factors that are most likely to cause gout attacks.

Gout is a group of heterogeneous diseases caused by purine metabolism disorder and/or uric acid excretion disorder resulting in increased serum uric acid. Because beer contains a large amount of purine, symptoms of joint pain may occur after drinking it. Its treatments include:

1. General treatment: Adjust diet, control total calorie intake, limit high-purine foods, such as heart, liver, kidney, brain, fish, shrimp, crab and other seafood, meat, soy products, yeast, etc., and strictly prohibit drinking, including beer containing a lot of purine; proper exercise can reduce insulin resistance, prevent overweight and obesity; increase uric acid excretion, drink plenty of water, more than 2 liters per day; do not use drugs that inhibit uric acid excretion, such as thiazide diuretics, etc.; avoid inducing factors and actively treat related diseases.

2. Treatment of acute gouty arthritis: absolute bed rest, elevate the affected limb, avoid weight bearing on the affected joints, and quickly give colchicine. The earlier the medication is used, the better. If the medication is delayed, the efficacy may decrease over time. Commonly used drugs include: colchicine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and glucocorticoids.

3. Treatment during the interictal and chronic phases: The goal of treatment is to maintain blood uric acid levels within normal levels. Commonly used drugs include: uricosuric acid drugs, commonly used ones include benzbromarone, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, etc.; drugs that inhibit uric acid production, mainly allopurinol, etc. If joint movement is impaired, physical therapy or body therapy can be combined. If the tophi are large or ruptured through the skin, the tophi can be removed surgically.

After knowing why joints hurt after drinking, for patients who have been diagnosed with gout, it is best to pay attention not to drink alcohol, especially beer, which is very helpful in lowering the uric acid level in the blood. In addition, you should pay attention to a lighter diet, which will have a good effect on regulating gout. I believe that if you persist for a long time, you will be able to control the onset of gout.
