【Traditional applications】

It is mainly used to treat vomiting and sputum, belching and hiccups, vomiting blood and epistaxis, hyperactivity of liver yang, dizziness and tinnitus, etc.

This medicine is commonly used in the following traditional prescriptions:

① Xuanfu Daizhe Decoction (Treatise on Febrile Diseases): Xuanfu flower, ochre, ginseng, pinellia, ginger, licorice, and jujube, used to treat belching and nausea. Vomiting saliva;

② Daizheshi Decoction (Imperial Pharmacy Prescription): ochre, tangerine peel, peach kernel, evodia rutaecarpa, cinnamon, ginger, for treating reverse qi rushing upward and obstruction of the respiratory tract;

③Zhesui Gongjie Decoction (Medical Records of Chinese and Western Medicine): raw ochre, potassium saltpeter, dried ginger, and gansui powder (mixed with water). It is used to treat food accumulation in the intestines and constipation for several days. Ochre is also the main ingredient in the famous prescription Zhengan Xifeng Decoction, which is used to treat dizziness, vertigo, and tinnitus caused by hyperactivity of liver yang.

【Main Ingredients】

It mainly contains ferric oxide, of which iron is 70% and oxygen is 30%. It also contains titanium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, manganese, calcium, arsenic, silicate, alumina, water, etc.

【Pharmacological action】

(I) Hematopoiesis

Ochre can promote the regeneration of red blood cells and hemoglobin in the bone marrow. It may be related to the iron and arsenic it contains.

(II) Central nervous system sedation

This product has a sedative effect on the central nervous system.

(III) Others

1. Injection of this product solution into anesthetized rabbits has little effect on blood pressure. In large quantities, it can cause depression in isolated frog hearts.

2. The solution of this product can excite the isolated rabbit intestine and increase peristalsis.

Through the above introduction, we know the effects and functions of raw ochre. In normal times, we should use it selectively according to our physical condition. However, it is generally used through Chinese medicine prescriptions. At the same time, we must pay attention to diet when using it. We cannot eat raw or cold food, nor spicy food.
