What are the effects and functions of Radix Aconiti Lateralis

Aconite root is a very good Chinese medicinal material, and it contains biological alkaloids, such as aconitine methylene, aconitine, etc. In addition, it also contains a lot of organic acids and trace elements, which can help us strengthen our heart, resist arrhythmia, enhance immune function and so on. So what are the effects and functions of this Aconite? Let’s take a look at it now.

[Other names of light aconite] Ce Zi (Ming Yi Bie Lu), tiger palm, leaky basket, cooked aconite, black aconite (Compendium of Materia Medica), Ming aconite (Bencao Zhengyi), Diao Fu, Chuan Fu Zi (Practical Chinese Medicine Handbook). [Prescription name] Aconite, cooked white aconite, salt aconite, roasted aconite, and light aconite.

Pharmacological Action

1. Aconite has an excitatory effect on the pituitary-adrenal cortex system, can significantly reduce the content of vitamin C in the adrenal glands of rats, increase the excretion of 17-ketosteroids in urine, and reduce the number of eosinophils in peripheral blood. In addition, for some patients with adrenal cortex insufficiency, aconite has an adrenal cortex hormone-like effect, and aconite decoction can improve the cold resistance of rats and chickens in cold environments. It can alleviate the drop in body temperature and reduce the mortality rate caused by cold.

2. Aconite can excite the vagus nerve center and have a cardiotonic effect. The experimenters believe that the cardiotonic components of aconite can withstand high temperatures and long-term cooking. It may be the calcium that plays a role, not the alkali part. The effect of aconite cold extract on the isolated toad heart may produce different effects due to different room temperatures; in an environment above 18°C, the toxic effect of aconitine is dominant, and the amplitude and frequency increase first, and then heart conduction block occurs, causing cardiac arrest; in an environment below 12°C, its cardiotonic effect is dominant, so it has a sustained cardiotonic effect. This result also partially explains why, in clinical practice, patients with yang syndrome (heat syndrome) are prone to poisoning when taking aconite, while patients with yin syndrome (cold syndrome) are not prone to poisoning. It also provides partial experimental evidence for the saying that it is advisable to take a bath, enter a warm room, and drink alcohol after taking aconite. Important: Detoxification method of aconite. Make a large bowl of radish juice, add 50 cents each of coptis chinensis and licorice, and 20 cents of rhinoceros horn, boil the medicine until 80% is left and drink it, the poison will be eliminated. Honey can also eliminate the poison of aconite. In acute poisoning, do not use roasted licorice or radish decoction, which is very effective in eliminating the poison of aconite.

The above is what we introduced to you about some of the effects and functions of Aconite Root. I believe you have already had some understanding of it. Because light aconite is poisonous, it must be processed before taking it internally. You also need to pay attention to the dosage and the decoction method, and be careful not to take it with any instrument, so as to maximize the medicinal effect.
