Benefits of Ginseng Leaves

Ginseng leaves are perennial herbs. The leaves can be used as medicine mainly to treat problems such as thirst caused by hot summer, insufficient stomach yin, or dry cough caused by dry lungs. It can also relieve swollen and painful gums caused by false fire. The method of use is also very simple. You can drink it directly in the form of tea. It has the effect of promoting fluid production and quenching thirst, clearing dryness, moistening the lungs and relieving cough. It has good medicinal value.

Ginseng leaf is a perennial herb, 30-70cm tall. The roots are enlarged, fleshy, cylindrical or spindle-shaped, branched at the ends, and have a light yellow outer skin. The leaves are palmately compound with long petioles. The number of whorled leaves varies depending on the years of growth. Generally, one-year-olds have one trifoliate leaf, and two-year-olds have up to six leaflets. There are 5 leaflets, occasionally 7. Ginseng leaves are mainly used to treat thirst due to summer heat; damage to body fluid due to heat disease; insufficient stomach yin; thirst; dry cough due to dryness of the lungs; and toothache due to deficiency of fire.

1. Used for thirst caused by summer heat. It has the functions of clearing away heat, promoting fluid and quenching thirst. It is used to treat thirst caused by summer heat. When combined with Ophiopogon japonicus, Talcum, Watermelon rind, etc., it has the effect of relieving heat and quenching thirst.

2. Used for damage to body fluid due to febrile disease, insufficient stomach yin, and thirst. Treats damage to body fluid caused by fever. It has weak effect when used alone, so it can be combined with gypsum, rhizoma anemarrhenae, rice and other drugs to enhance its antipyretic and body-warming effect. To treat dry mouth caused by stomach heat and yin damage, you can use herbs such as reed root, imperata root, and ophiopogon to clear away heat and promote salivation. For the treatment of diabetes, if the disease is caused by heat and damage to the yin, it can be used with herbs such as Radix Trichosanthis, Asparagus cochinchinensis, and Coptis chinensis to clear away heat, promote fluid production, and quench thirst; if the disease is caused by damage to both the qi and yin, it can be used with herbs such as Raw Astragalus, Ophiopogon japonicus, and Schisandra chinensis to replenish qi, nourish yin, and quench thirst.

3. Used for dry cough due to lung dryness. Ginseng leaves can clear the lungs and produce fluid, and can treat dry cough caused by warm and dry weather that damages the lungs. It has a slow effect when used alone, and is often combined with other medicines such as Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Fritillaria thunbergii, and mulberry leaves to achieve the effect of clearing dryness, moistening the lungs and relieving cough.

4. Used for toothache caused by internal heat. Ginseng leaves can reduce false fire and treat toothache caused by false fire. It can be combined with raw rehmannia, ophiopogon japonicus, raw Achyranthes bidentata, etc. to nourish yin, reduce false fire and relieve pain.

Through understanding, we will find that ginseng leaves have high medicinal value. They can treat problems such as heat disease damaging body fluid and insufficient stomach yin, or dry cough caused by lung dryness. They can also be combined with Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Fritillaria thunbergii, mulberry leaves, etc. This will have a better effect of clearing dryness, moistening the lungs and relieving cough, without causing other adverse effects or side effects to our body.
