Herpes zoster is caused by the activation of the varicella-zoster virus hidden in the body. This virus will hide in the body's nerve cells since its first appearance, and will be induced when the immune function is low, and the resulting inflammation will be very severe.

Clinically, herpes on the lips is divided into two types: primary and recurrent. The primary type includes herpetic gingivostomatitis on the lips, herpetic vaginitis on the lips, inoculated herpes on the lips, herpetic eczema on the lips, disseminated herpes on the lips, neonatal herpes on the lips, etc. The recurrent type includes herpes on the lips, genital herpes on the lips, herpes virus type 2 infection on the lips, recurrent herpetic keratoconjunctivitis on the lips, etc.

Herpes zoster on the lips has a sudden onset or may be painful at first. The lesions are clustered bean-sized blisters on the inflammatory erythema, with occasional papules, bullae or blood blisters. The skin between each cluster is rough. The rash is often distributed in a band-like manner along the peripheral nerves. It is more common on one side, especially in the intercostal nerve and trigeminal nerve areas, and its intersection is the brachial plexus of the upper limbs and the sciatic nerve area of ​​the lower limbs. It may also involve the eyes, causing keratitis, iritis, panophthalmitis, etc. The course of the disease is 2 to 3 months or longer. Unilateral lymph nodes are often swollen and tender. In severe cases, fever and abnormal degree of pain may occur.
