Treatment and care of autoimmune encephalitis

Treatment and care of autoimmune encephalitis

Encephalitis is a serious inflammatory disease of the brain with many possible causes and a complex differential diagnosis. Encephalitis is extremely harmful to human health, so how should autoimmune encephalitis be treated and cared for?

1. Daily care: Daily living activities are the most basic activities for people to maintain their lives, such as eating, changing clothes, washing, going to the toilet, etc. Children with sequelae of encephalitis often have multiple ability deficits and require daily life care and training.

2. Environmental care: Keep the indoor air fresh, the sunlight sufficient, the ventilation good, and the temperature appropriate. Regularly disinfect with ultraviolet light and mop the floor with disinfectant to ensure the cleanliness of the child's room.

3. Dietary care: Provide high-calorie, high-protein, vitamin-rich and easily digestible food. Children who have difficulty eating independently should receive dietary training. When feeding, do not forcefully pull out the spoon when the child's teeth are clenched to avoid damaging the teeth. The child's head should be kept in the midline position when feeding. If the child's head is tilted back while feeding, foreign matter may be inhaled.

4. Skin care: Children with severe illnesses and those who cannot sit up often stay in bed or lie on their side for a long time. At this time, parents should help the children turn over and try to reduce the time they spend in bed during the day. And clean up urine and feces in time, keep the skin clean, and prevent bedsores or other secondary infections.

5. Functional training: Although the brain lesions of children with sequelae of encephalitis are static, the resulting neurological defects are not always fixed. The paralyzed limbs should be kept in a functional position, and passive or active movements should be performed to promote muscle and joint activity and improve muscle tone.
