2. Transmission routes of hepatitis A

Patients are most contagious from the end of the incubation period to 10 days after onset of the disease. The fecal-oral route is the main route of transmission. Water and food are the main ways of outbreaks, and daily life contact is the main route of transmission for sporadic cases. There are reports that hepatitis A can also be transmitted through blood and vertical transmission (Foreign Medical Communication Volume 1994), but further research is needed.
