Where is the hip joint?

The hip joint is an important hub connecting the human torso and lower limbs, but these parts are actually easily affected by some diseases, which can cause joint pain and affect life and work. Ankylosing spondylitis is a relatively common problem and prevention must be emphasized.

1. The hip is an important hub connecting the human torso and lower limbs. The hip joint supports the torso above and connects to the lower limbs. It is the most necessary and critical part when a person walks, sits or lies down.

2. Hip joint diseases often have an insidious onset and atypical early symptoms, which may be intermittent pain in one or both hip joints. This does not attract people's attention, but tendinitis and synovitis are constantly developing. When obvious hip pain or even limited movement occurs, the hip cartilage has been destroyed and the joint space has narrowed.

3. The pathological changes of ankylosing spondylitis include tendon enthesis inflammation (tendinitis) and synovitis. In the axial joints of ankylosing spondylitis, the pathological changes that lead to joint damage and ankylosis are mainly tendinitis. Although ankylosing spondylitis often affects peripheral synovial joints (such as the knee and ankle joints), it rarely causes rheumatoid arthritis-like bone erosion. This phenomenon currently has no definite scientific explanation. Some scholars believe that osteoclasts play an important role in the pathological changes of rheumatoid arthritis. Because osteoclasts are greater than osteoblasts, obvious bone absorption occurs. In ankylosing spondylitis, osteoblasts are greater than osteoclasts, so osteophytes are more likely to form. Therefore, hip joint damage in ankylosing spondylitis may include two types of pathological changes, namely synovitis and tendinitis.
