Can I have liposuction during a caesarean section?

For obese pregnant women, they hope to have liposuction surgery during cesarean section. However, doctors dare not do so because cesarean section itself is a relatively major operation and has a greater impact on the mother. It is impossible to perform liposuction surgery at the same time. Of course, if you are really fat, the wound may heal more slowly due to the fat, so some of the fat near the wound may be removed.

What is the Caesarean section process like?

1. Sign the surgical consent form according to the regulations of the delivery hospital

As a surgical operation, before cesarean section, the mother and her family must accept the doctor's instructions. If they have any doubts or concerns, they must consult the doctor and then sign the consent form. The signatories vary depending on the hospital, but most of the signatories should be the mother herself and her husband.

2. Preparation for Caesarean Section

① Give the pregnant woman a full-body examination and necessary tests: In order to ensure the safety of the operation, the pregnant woman should undergo a full-body examination before a caesarean section. Examination items include: blood drawing, electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, etc. When having a check-up, the mother should try to remain calm and composed so as to obtain accurate data.

② Skin preparation and other disinfection measures: This means that the nurse shaves the abdominal hair and pubic hair and disinfects the abdominal skin for the mother, which can better create a sterile environment for the cesarean section.

③Placement of a urinary catheter: The purpose of this is to allow the mother to empty her bladder. The mother cannot go to the toilet during the operation, so a urinary catheter must be inserted to drain the urine.

④ Blood tests: Check whether the mother is anemic; check whether the liver function is normal; determine the mother's blood type; whether there are other blood diseases; and also prepare for the mother in case a blood transfusion is needed during surgery.

3. Intravenous drip

Intravenous drip is a necessary procedure before surgery, which can prevent the sudden drop in blood sugar from causing the mother to fall into a coma.

4. Preoperative anesthesia

Depending on the mother's condition, the doctor will perform an epidural or occasionally general anesthesia. Anesthesia is performed by a specialized anesthesiologist.

5. Operation begins

Communicate with the doctor before the cesarean section. If there is anything you don’t understand, be sure to ask the doctor. Even if it is a small matter, you should eliminate your doubts. This will not only allow you to communicate your situation with the doctor, but also stabilize your emotions and feel at ease to undergo the surgery.
