Common reasons for delayed due date

Common reasons for delayed due date

When the due date arrives, the fetus is still not in a hurry. At this time, the expectant mother and father are very anxious. There are many reasons for postponing the due date, such as incorrect calculation of the due date. Don't be too nervous at this time. Carry out prenatal examinations in time and closely observe the fetal heart rate at all times. If some abnormal situations occur, a caesarean section can be performed in time. Generally speaking, as long as the fetus is healthy in the mother's body, parents do not need to worry.

Why is the due date delayed?

Regarding the question of why the due date is postponed, pregnant mothers do not need to worry too much at this time. The so-called due date is only the approximate date of the baby's birth. The physical condition of the pregnant woman and other external factors will affect the advancement or postponement of the child's birth date. If the birth is 1 to 2 weeks earlier or later than the expected date of delivery, it is still considered normal. Just do a good prenatal check-up.

Only 5 out of every 100 babies are born on time! About 40% of babies will be late, with the latest being born at the 42nd week of pregnancy, so it is normal to be within 14 days of the expected date of delivery. Starting two weeks after the due date, the function of the placenta may decline, which means that the fetus may start to not get enough oxygen and nutrients.

What to do if the due date is delayed

Many pregnant women will encounter this situation, and the baby is still not moving after the due date. What if the due date is exceeded? In fact, it is normal to give birth within two weeks before or after the due date. If a baby is born between 24 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, it is considered premature, and if it is born after 42 weeks, it is considered post-term.

If a pregnant woman has passed her due date but has not yet shown any signs of labor, she must pay attention to the following points:

1. Don’t be too nervous and pay attention to fetal movements. If the fetal movement is less than 3 times per hour or less than 20 times within 12 hours, or the fetal movement weakens, you need to go to the hospital for further examination immediately. The doctor will decide the time of delivery based on the situation.

2. Continue with prenatal checkups and give the doctor the results of early pregnancy examinations (such as B-ultrasound, blood tests, pregnancy tests, etc.) and the time and results of fetal movement, so that the doctor can check the gestational age again.

3. Strengthen prenatal examinations, shorten the intervals between examinations, keep in touch with the doctor at any time, inform him of the intrauterine fetal movement, and follow up the amniotic fluid volume with B-ultrasound. If there are no abnormalities, the pregnancy can be continued under close monitoring.

If the due date is postponed to 14 days later, reaching the so-called clinically overdue pregnancy, the placenta of some pregnant women will age and the fetus will suffer from lack of oxygen and suffocation, which will cause great harm to the child. You should go to the hospital in time to take measures.
