Side effects of anesthetic for wisdom tooth extraction

Side effects of anesthetic for wisdom tooth extraction

Sometimes wisdom teeth need to be removed. Before removing wisdom teeth, anesthesia is required.

The dosage of anesthetic used is also very small, and the anesthetic can be completely metabolized in the body six hours after wisdom tooth extraction. In many cases, wisdom teeth need to be extracted because their position may be special, which can easily induce tooth decay, cause problems with tooth arrangement, etc., and may also affect the bite.

Do wisdom teeth need to be removed?

1. Tooth decay

Because of the special location of wisdom teeth, they cannot be reached by brushing teeth normally, which will cause tooth decay in the long run. For caries that are not deep on the occlusal surface, filling can be the main treatment. However, if caries occurs on the contact surface of adjacent teeth, tooth extraction is recommended to prevent the caries from getting deeper.

2. Crowded dentition

Improper growth position of wisdom teeth may cause crowding of the teeth and affect the occlusion relationship between the upper and lower teeth, which in turn affects the normal chewing function and reduces chewing efficiency. In addition, the residues in the crowded areas are not easy to clean and can easily form bacteria and soft plaque, causing a series of diseases to the originally normal teeth.

3. Affecting bite

If the position and direction of wisdom tooth growth are abnormal, it will affect the bite between the upper and lower teeth. Moreover, not everyone will have all four wisdom teeth grow completely, so if a wisdom tooth does not have a competing wisdom tooth to bite against, sometimes the wisdom tooth will over-erupt, which will also affect the bite.

4. Impacted teeth

Wisdom teeth sometimes fail to erupt fully or grow crookedly, becoming impacted teeth, causing malocclusion, pericoronal infection, difficulty opening the mouth, etc. If the wisdom tooth is impacted and tilted forward, it is easy for it to form an angle with the second molar and cause food to be trapped, which may lead to caries of the second molar or even pulpitis over time.

The best age to remove wisdom teeth

Some experts point out that the best time to extract wisdom teeth is between 13 and 30 years old. Generally speaking, it is more appropriate to extract wisdom teeth before the age of 30. Extracting them after the age of 40 will increase the trauma. Many people only come to have their wisdom teeth removed when they have no choice. Some elderly people even come to have their wisdom teeth removed when they are over 80 years old. However, they are often unable to have their wisdom teeth removed due to their physical condition. By then, the problems caused by the wisdom teeth are difficult to completely eradicate, and sometimes even affect the elderly's ability to wear dentures, seriously impairing their quality of life. Some wisdom teeth have caused the surrounding teeth to decay, and then two or three teeth have to be extracted together, which will cause even greater damage. In principle, once wisdom teeth are found to be underdeveloped, they should be removed as soon as possible, otherwise there will be endless troubles in the future.
