About Oral Ulcers

About Oral Ulcers

I believe that many people have experienced oral ulcers in their daily lives. Oral ulcers are very harmful, and the taste of oral ulcers is really unacceptable. Oral ulcers are largely caused by bacterial lesions and lack of elements in the body. Therefore, oral ulcers need to be reasonably examined and diagnosed in time to avoid some complications. So what are the inspection procedures for oral ulcers?

What are the inspection procedures for oral ulcers

For simple oral ulcers, visual examination of the oral cavity is sufficient; if the oral ulcer has a long course or is a concomitant symptom of other diseases, the primary disease should also be examined.

How to differentiate between benign and malignant ulcers?

The probability of developing oral ulcers in a person's lifetime is almost 100%. Benign oral ulcers refer to oral ulcers that will not turn into cancer, while malignant oral ulcers are the opposite. So how do we distinguish between benign oral ulcers and malignant oral ulcers?

Judge based on the time it takes for the ulcer to heal: benign oral ulcers usually heal in just a few days to a few weeks. Malignant oral ulcers develop progressively and may not heal for months or even more than a year.

Judge based on the shape of the ulcer surface: Benign oral ulcers are generally regular in shape, round, oval or linear, with neat edges and clear boundaries with surrounding tissues. The base of the ulcer surface is smooth, soft to the touch, and painful. Malignant oral ulcers are often irregular in shape, with raised, uneven edges and unclear boundaries with surrounding tissues. The base of the ulcer surface is uneven and granular, hard to the touch, and significantly different from normal mucosa, and the pain is not obvious.

Judging by the course of the disease: Benign oral ulcers often recur. Malignant oral ulcers often do not recur, but once they occur, they take a long time to heal.

Judge based on the patient's sensitivity to drugs: patients with benign oral ulcers generally see significant results and heal faster after treatment with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic drugs. If patients with malignant oral ulcers use this type of medicine to treat, the effect is often not obvious.

Judge based on the patient's general condition: patients with benign oral ulcers rarely have systemic symptoms, and the cervical lymph nodes are not swollen, or they are swollen but not hard or adherent. On the contrary, patients with malignant oral ulcers may experience fever, swollen cervical lymph nodes, loss of appetite, weight loss, anemia, fatigue, etc.
