3. High fever, coma, restlessness, insomnia, vomiting and nosebleed due to blood heat. It is especially good at clearing away the excess fire in the heart meridian. It can be used to treat coma and restlessness caused by excessive heart fire.

4. Carbuncle, furuncle, red eyes and toothache

5. It can be used to treat thirst and clear stomach fire. It can be used to treat thirst caused by excessive stomach fire, the inability to digest food and relieve hunger. It is often used with Ophiopogon japonicus as Xiaoke Pills.

6. External treatment of eczema, eczema, and ear canal pus. The ointment can be applied externally to treat skin eczema and eczema. Take the juice and apply it to the affected area to treat pus in the ear canal. The decoction can be dropped into the eyes to treat red and swollen eyes.

Usage and Dosage of Coptis chinensis

Daily dosage: 2 to 5 g. For external use, apply in appropriate amount; decoct in water or take externally: grind into powder and apply externally.

Side Effects of Coptis Chinensis

The ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine are complex, and the pharmacological effects are even more complex. The current level of technology cannot accurately explain the adverse reactions of Coptis chinensis. But one thing is certain, it has little side effects.

Coptis chinensis is very bitter and cold. Taking it excessively or for a long time can easily damage the spleen and stomach, causing diarrhea, and affecting the gastrointestinal function, which in turn affects appetite and leads to indigestion. Use with caution unless there is real heat in the body.

Coptis chinensis has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory, and has an inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli. It can be soaked in water and drunk, but it is not suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach. It is bitter and dry and can damage body fluids. People with yin deficiency and body fluid damage should use it with caution because it is bitter and cold.

Generally speaking, it is not advisable to take the medicine for a long time after the illness is cured. It is best to take it after meals. The dosage of Coptis chinensis is 2-3 grams per day for mild illness and 5-6 grams per day for severe illness. Children have imperfect spleen and stomach functions, so they should not take Coptis chinensis blindly.
