The lateral ventricle belongs to the human head tissue. It is a small branch of the human cerebral ventricle. The ventricle is very important to each of us. If there is a problem with a person's ventricle, then this person is already a useless person. He may become disabled. The lateral ventricle is sometimes particularly wide. Some people say that this means that the fetus has a high IQ. So does a wide lateral ventricle mean that the fetus is smart? Ventriculomegaly is an ultrasound sign in which the width of the fetal lateral ventricle body is greater than 10 mm when measured by ultrasound in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Measuring the width of the lateral ventricle is a standard method for prenatal ultrasound examination to determine the degree of fetal neurological diseases and lesions. For fetuses with combined structural abnormalities in other parts of the body or chromosomal abnormalities, it is not recommended to continue the pregnancy. Causes : 1. Chromosomal abnormalities: Trisomy 21, Trisomy 18, 47XXY, triploidy, etc. 2. Infection with cytomegalovirus infection, syphilis infection, toxoplasmosis infection, etc. 3. Cerebrospinal fluid circulation disorders include cerebral aqueduct stenosis, Chiari type II malformation, Dandy-Walker malformation, corpus callosum dysgenesis, etc. Enlargement of the lateral ventricle is an ultrasonic sign obtained by ultrasound measurement during pregnancy, and is mainly used to differentiate between various diseases through relevant examinations. 1.21-Trisomy syndrome can be diagnosed by karyotype analysis of fetal somatic cells. 2. Cytomegalovirus infection TORCH screening can determine whether there is cytomegalovirus infection. In addition, CT can detect periventricular calcification. 3. Stenosis of the cerebral aqueduct B-ultrasound shows widening of the lateral ventricles and enlargement of the third ventricle, but the fourth ventricle is not dilated, and the dilated proximal cerebral aqueduct can be seen. If the choroid plexus is shrunk and becomes suspended, hydrocephalus is considered to be present. Babies with enlarged lateral ventricles need further examination as soon as they are born to confirm whether they have hydrocephalus. After the baby is born, it is relatively easy to do an examination. You can ask the pediatrician to make an appointment for a newborn's head ultrasound. When a baby is born, there are two fontanelles on its head. The bones in these two places are not completely closed. Ultrasound can clearly show whether the baby has hydrocephalus and whether the lateral ventricles are wide. If the lateral ventricle is still 11-12 mm when measured after birth, but does not meet the standard for treatment, then it is necessary to observe the child's growth and development, as well as the performance of the child's nervous system. Whether the baby can sit up when he should, crawl when he should, call his mother when he should, etc., we can judge whether the nervous system is normal based on these performances. At the same time, check the child's lateral ventricles regularly to see whether they maintain their current width without progression, or gradually become narrower, or develop into hydrocephalus. |
