Is benign parotid tumor scary?

Is benign parotid tumor scary?

Benign parotid tumors are relatively common in life. Parotid gland tumors are a relatively common tumor. Most of them are benign, so patients should not worry too much. Of course, they should be alert to the rapid growth of parotid gland tumors. If they grow rapidly, they should be surgically removed in time. After all, when they grow rapidly, they will compress adjacent tissues and organs, and even cause greater harm to the brain's nervous system.

Is benign parotid tumor scary?

(1) External application of Chinese medicine. External application of Chinese medicine to treat parotid masses can cause tissue congestion and fibrosis, leading to adhesion of parotid tissue. Not only will it not cause the tumor or cyst to regress, but it will make surgical dissection of the facial nerve difficult. Therefore, external application of Chinese medicine should be absolutely contraindicated.

(2) Biopsy of the parotid area. Regardless of whether the parotid tumor is benign or malignant, biopsy such as puncture carries the risk of tumor cell implantation, so any form of biopsy should be absolutely contraindicated. (

3) Surgical treatment that only removes the tumor. Parotid gland tumors, whether benign or malignant, are invasive to a certain extent, that is, the tumor can invade adjacent tissues. The surgical method of only removing the tumor without removing the superficial or deep lobe of the parotid gland is extremely imperfect and is the main cause of postoperative recurrence. Therefore, once a lump grows in the parotid gland area, you should seek medical treatment at a large regular hospital in a timely manner. External application of Chinese medicine and puncture biopsy are contraindicated.

Clinical manifestations

Malignant tumors of the parotid gland mainly include mucoepidermoid carcinoma, acinar cell carcinoma, malignant mixed tumor, adenoid cystadenocarcinoma, metastatic carcinoma, etc. They all grow rapidly, with irregular lumps in shape, hard texture, immobility, unclear boundaries, painful lumps and even skin ulcers. They invade surrounding muscles, blood vessels and nerves and may cause facial numbness, pain, limited mouth opening, hearing loss and difficulty swallowing. Benign tumors may have no special symptoms except for the mass.

Inspection method

1. Imaging examinations include B-ultrasound examination, CT examination, iodine contrast, radionuclide scanning, etc. CT examination shows that malignant tumors appear as irregular soft tissue masses with uneven density. They are prone to necrosis, cystic change, and hemorrhage. They grow in an invasive manner with blurred edges. They are likely to invade the internal and external pterygoid muscles, the parapharyngeal space, the mandible forward, and the neck blood vessels and neural tube backward, often causing metastasis to the ipsilateral cervical lymph nodes. 2. Pathological examination The tumor type often requires pathological examination to determine.
