Can babies drink milk when they have a fever?

Milk is a super nutritious drink. No matter what age you are, it is particularly nourishing to the body and it is also high in calcium. Especially children, they should be given a certain amount of milk every day to supplement protein and calcium and enhance their resistance. So milk is a constant supply for us. But for babies with fever, can they drink milk? Babies can drink milk when they have a fever, but the milk should be lighter than before.

Children with fever should try not to drink or drink less milk.

Because febrile patients require a light diet and eat food that is easily digestible and absorbable during their illness. Do not eat eggs, milk, meat, meat soup and irritating foods to avoid causing higher fever. Because milk is highly nutritious, it produces extra calories. Drinking it will increase the body's heat, intensify fever symptoms, and worsen the condition.

Additionally, drinking milk may make a runny nose worse, and the protein and milk solids can coat cold medicines and make them less effective. So it’s best not to drink milk. When a child has a fever, he should be given plenty of hot water or vegetable and fruit juice to help sweat and urinate, promote the excretion of toxins, and facilitate recovery from the illness. It is best to drink more boiled water when you have a fever, because fever can cause severe dehydration in the body and you need to drink a lot of water to replenish energy.

In addition, when you have a fever, you should also take an appropriate amount of vitamin C and repeatedly wipe the palms of your hands and soles of your feet with alcohol or a hot towel. Try to avoid air conditioning and electric fans. This is the only way to reduce fever quickly. If the child really wants to drink milk, give him some formula milk, but be careful to use the right amount. You can add more water so that it is thinner and easier to digest. It can also provide certain nutrients.

If the diarrhea and fever are caused by other reasons, you can drink milk. Children with acute diarrhea should continue to be fed. If they are breastfed, they can eat milk and water freely. Bottle-fed children can be fed diluted milk (1 part milk plus 2 parts water) for 2-3 days, and then gradually increased to whole milk. Children over six months old can choose rice soup, porridge or soft noodles, and give some fresh fruit juice or fruit to supplement potassium, and add some cooked vegetable oil, vegetables, minced meat or fish, etc., but it all needs to be started from small to large, and gradually transition to the usual diet they are accustomed to.
