We often find that as time goes by and we age, our eyes will gradually bulge out. There are many reasons for this. Some are caused by internal diseases, and some may be external reasons. For example, people with myopia who need to wear glasses frequently may also experience this situation. Some people do not pay much attention to this bulging eyes condition at first. In fact, this situation may be caused by diseases such as scleritis and ocular tuberculosis. Once this situation occurs, it is best to seek medical attention in time. What are the examination items for protruding eyes? 1. For unexplained unilateral or bilateral exophthalmos, a thyroid function test should be performed to rule out problems such as hyperthyroidism. 2. If thyroid function is normal or the exophthalmos is sudden, an orbital CT scan or MRI should be performed to look for intraorbital causes. The degree of exophthalmos can be measured with an exophthalmometer. 3. Vision check: Determine whether there are problems such as myopia. 4. Routine blood test and eye secretion examination: pay attention to whether there is an infectious problem causing the exophthalmos. What's wrong with a protruding eye? 1. Ocular tuberculosis. Ocular tuberculosis is a less common disorder that causes progressive proptosis with ptosis, painless lid edema, erythema, lacrimal gland enlargement, and, on examination, yellow or white deposits on the cornea and white nodules on the iris. 2. Orbital cellulitis. Orbital cellulitis is often caused by sinusitis, resulting in mild or severe unilateral exophthalmos. It can also cause eye pain, conjunctival congestion, tearing, eyelid edema, erythema, purulent secretions, restricted eye movement, fever, headache, and general discomfort. 3. Optic nerve meningioma. Optic nerve meningiomas may cause unilateral proptosis and swelling in the temporal area, as well as impaired visual acuity, visual field defects, and headaches. 4. The most common symptom of scleritis is unilateral progressive mild to severe proptosis. Other manifestations include severe eye pain, diplopia, optic disc edema, limited extraocular muscle movement, and impaired visual acuity. 5. Thyrotoxicosis. Proptosis is a characteristic finding of the disease but is not present in many patients with hyperthyroidism. The eyes are bilateral, progressive, and severely extruded, and associated ocular features include ptosis, diplopia, and decreased visual acuity. Other manifestations may include goiter, irritability, heat intolerance, increased appetite with weight loss, sweating, diarrhea, tremor, palpitations, and tachycardia. Diet and health care for protruding eyes Suitable food for patients with exophthalmos (the following information is for reference only, please ask your doctor for details) 1. People with excessive fire can use cool foods such as watermelon, green beans, celery, and day lily. 2. People with yin deficiency can use foods that have yin-nourishing function, such as fungus, mulberry, turtle, duck, etc. People with spleen deficiency can use foods that strengthen the spleen and stop diarrhea, such as yam, water chestnut, apple, jujube, mustard greens, etc. 3. Eat more foods high in potassium and also foods rich in calcium and phosphorus. Patients with exophthalmos should avoid eating 1. Avoid dairy products, coffee, tea, nicotine and stimulating drinks and foods for at least 3 months. 2. Avoid warm, spicy and dry foods, such as chili peppers, raw cinnamon, ginger, lamb, etc. 3. To limit dietary fiber, you should eat less bran, cabbage, apples, carrots and other foods rich in dietary fiber. |
