Can I drink alcohol after taking birth control pills?

In life, with the openness of social atmosphere, many female friends often need to use some contraceptive pills. But do you know that when taking birth control pills, you also need to pay attention to many issues to ensure their effectiveness. Some friends have asked me this question: Can I drink alcohol after taking birth control pills? The answer is no. Because drinking alcohol after taking birth control pills can cause liver damage.

Drinking alcohol after taking emergency contraceptive pills can affect the metabolism of the drug and even cause liver damage. It is recommended that you still abstain from alcohol for 12-24 hours. So as not to affect the contraceptive effect.

Contraceptive pills generally refer to contraceptive pills for women, which are mostly made of a combination of estrogen and progesterone. There are also single progesterone and some non-steroidal drugs. Contraceptive pills can affect different parts of the reproductive process, thereby achieving the purpose of anti-fertility. There is currently no satisfactory male contraceptive drug.

According to different mechanisms of action, contraceptives can be divided into the following categories: ① Mainly by inhibiting ovulation and changing cervical mucus to make it difficult for sperm to penetrate, such as combined preparations composed of estrogen and progesterone. ② Mainly by changing the activity of the uterus and fallopian tube or other means to hinder the transportation of the fertilized egg, such as small doses of progesterone, topical spermicides and sterilization drugs also belong to this category. ③Drugs that mainly interfere with the implantation of fertilized eggs, such as large doses of progesterone. ④Drugs that mainly affect the function of the uterus and placenta, such as antiprogestins, 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase inhibitors and prostaglandins. Depending on the route of administration, contraceptives can be divided into oral contraceptives, injectable contraceptives, topical contraceptives and subcutaneous contraceptive implants.

People with acute or chronic hepatitis, nephritis, malignant tumors, heart disease, arteriovenous thrombosis, breast and genital tract tumors, endocrine diseases (such as diabetes requiring insulin treatment), and blood pressure higher than 150/100 mmHg should not use contraceptives; for patients with thrombotic diseases, congestive heart failure, blood diseases, malignant hypertension, etc., contraceptives will aggravate the condition; and some malignant tumors contain estrogen and progesterone receptors, and the hormones in contraceptives will promote the development of tumors. Women with hyperthyroidism should not use birth control pills until they are cured. It should not be used by women suffering from chronic headaches, especially migraines and vascular headaches. The drug can be secreted through breast milk and have a certain impact on the fetus. The drug itself can also reduce milk production, so it is prohibited for breastfeeding women.

It should be used with caution by those who are over 40 years old, smokers over 35 years old, those with epilepsy, depression, menstrual abnormalities, breastfeeding women, or those with mild hypertension.
