What to do if a physical examination reveals a shadow in the lungs

The global cancer rate is increasing every year. This phenomenon has made many people pay more attention to their health. Many companies and units will conduct physical examinations for their employees every year. Many people will get the result of shadows in the lungs during chest examinations. However, there are many diseases that can cause this situation, so patients should receive treatment in time. So what should we do if shadows are found in the lungs during physical examinations?

First, what should you do if you find shadows in your lungs during a physical examination? Bacterial lung infectious diseases: Bacterial pneumonia is the most common. After treatment with antibiotics, a chest X-ray will reveal that the lung shadows have been significantly reduced or even disappeared completely. Generally, the disease can be cured within 2 weeks of treatment.

Second, pulmonary tuberculosis: It is a lung infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and its incidence has been increasing in recent years. Clinical manifestations of pulmonary tuberculosis patients: often have cough, sputum and hemoptysis, as well as low fever in the afternoon, fatigue, night sweats and other symptoms of tuberculosis poisoning. Laboratory examination: Acid-fast bacilli were found in the sputum, and the skin tuberculin test (PPD test) was strongly positive. Combined with the results of chest X-ray or CT, the diagnosis can be basically confirmed. Most patients with pulmonary tuberculosis respond well to anti-tuberculosis drug treatment.

What should you do if a physical examination reveals shadows in your lungs? Lung tumors are divided into benign tumors (inflammatory pseudotumors, hamartomas) and malignant tumors (lung cancer or secondary metastatic lung cancer). What everyone is worried about is lung cancer. Lung cancer patients often have long-term smoking, are over 40 to 50 years old, have irritating dry coughs or coughs with sputum, blood in sputum, chest tightness, chest pain, significant weight loss, fatigue and other discomfort symptoms. Laboratory tests may show elevated blood tumor markers, sputum or mass puncture biopsy, and fiber bronchoscopy biopsy may find cancer cells, and imaging has special manifestations (such as chest CT showing that lung nodules are "lobed" or have "burr signs", the edges of metastatic lung cancer masses are generally smooth, and multiple similar nodules are prone to appear in the lungs). If lung cancer is clearly diagnosed, the patient should promptly go to an oncology specialist for standardized treatment, choosing treatment methods such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or targeted therapy. Instead of seeking medical treatment rashly based on hearsay and thus delaying the treatment.
