Can acupuncture be used to treat eye muscle spasm?

Eye muscle spasm is also called blepharospasm. There are many causes of blepharospasm. Generally speaking, if you are emotionally unstable and nervous, and do not get enough rest, you may suffer from such symptoms. If the blepharospasm is more serious, you can use some blood-activating medicines for treatment, or you can try acupuncture. In addition, you should strengthen your diet and get enough rest to relieve excessive psychological pressure.

What is blepharospasm

It is divided into primary and secondary types: ① Primary: At the beginning of the disease, there is slight twitching of the eyelid (orbicularis oculi muscle). In severe cases, all facial muscles on one side will contract clonically and rigidly, often causing the eyelids to close and affecting vision. It is more common in middle-aged and elderly women, and the cause is unknown. In some patients, the disease is caused by cross compression of nerves by hardened blood vessels. ② Secondary: The clinical manifestations are similar to primary, generally milder, and common causes include basilar artery aneurysm, petrous bone cone tumor, epithelial cell tumor or neurofibroma in the facial nerve canal, etc. The spasm of the orbicularis oculi and hemifacial muscles after facial nerve paralysis is mostly tonic.
