Lumps after DPT vaccine

Lumps after DPT vaccine

Children have relatively poor body resistance and are easily attacked by certain diseases. A better way is to get vaccinations. The existence of various vaccines plays a role in safeguarding the healthy growth of children. The DTP vaccine is a vaccine that prevents whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus. Many children develop lumps after receiving the DTP vaccine. So, what causes lumps after the DPT vaccine? Let’s take a look at the reasons below.

What causes lumps after taking the DPT vaccine?

The diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine contains adsorbent components, and this adsorbent is the culprit that causes nodules at the vaccination site in children. Parents should pay attention to the condition of the nodules. If there is no redness, swelling, heat or pain, parents do not need to worry. Generally speaking, the nodules will be absorbed by themselves in a week at the fastest and several months at the slowest. If the nodules are red and swollen, and the child cries when touched, it means there is pain. You can go to the health center to apply anti-inflammatory and analgesic ointment, which is very effective. If the situation is not bad, parents can apply warm towels or potato slices to the vaccination site at home, which is conducive to the absorption of the nodules.

The role of DTP vaccine

1. The DTP vaccine has been proven through years of practice at home and abroad to have a good preventive effect on whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus. It is generally believed that the immunization effect against tetanus and diphtheria is more satisfactory.

2. The diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine has the best preventive effect on tetanus. After basic immunization with the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine or two injections of tetanus vaccine, the antitoxin in all vaccinated sera can reach above the protective level, the antibodies can be maintained for 10 to 15 years, and the protection rate can reach more than 95%.

3. The prevention effect of diphtheria is also relatively ideal. After basic immunization with DTP vaccine or two doses of diphtheria vaccine, about 90% of people can reach a protective level of diphtheria antitoxin in their serum. If a booster shot is given at 1.5 to 2 years old, the antibodies can last for more than 5 years.

Vaccinations are mainly for prevention and only play a supporting role. After being injected into the body, the antibodies in the body will disappear over time. The most important thing is the care in daily life and the formation of habits. Children are young and their ability to resist viruses is not so good. Children should often be given nutritious food, eat more fruits and vegetables, and eat more meals to ensure the body's energy needs.
