Taboos for women taking Chinese medicine

As people's living standards improve, more and more women pay attention to their physical health. Some women like to use traditional Chinese medicine to regulate their bodies. Sometimes when we take medicines, doctors often tell us some precautions, such as what to eat more and what to eat less during the medication period. In fact, there are some taboos for women when taking traditional Chinese medicine. What are the taboos for women when taking traditional Chinese medicine?

Taboos for women to drink Chinese medicine

1. Choosing the correct time to take Chinese medicine will achieve the best therapeutic effect, especially for Chinese medicine. The time to take Chinese medicine should be determined according to the condition and the nature of the medicine. Most medicines should be taken half an hour to one hour after a meal to reduce the direct irritation of the drug to the gastric mucosa.

2. When using traditional Chinese medicine, pay attention to the four properties and five flavors, and formulate prescriptions based on the cold, hot, warm, and cool properties of the medicine, and refer to the five flavors of pungent, sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. When taking medicine on an empty stomach, cold medicines or medicines with strong flavors may cause certain damage to the gastric mucosa.

3. Different types of Chinese medicine require different times of taking. For liver, kidney, and intestinal diseases, it is advisable to take medicine before meals. For dizziness and throat diseases, it is best to take medicine after meals. Laxatives, tonics and anthelmintics should be taken on an empty stomach. Tranquilizers should be taken before bedtime.

4. It is advisable to eat less beans, meat, raw and cold foods and other foods that are difficult to digest, so as not to increase the gastrointestinal burden of the patient and affect disease recovery. Patients with weak spleen and stomach should eat less of this kind of food.

5. Patients with febrile diseases should abstain from or eat less alcohol, spicy food, fish, meat, etc., because alcohol and spicy food are hot in nature, and fish and meat have greasy, heat-generating and phlegm-producing effects, which will encourage pathogenic factors after eating and make the condition worse.

When can women not drink Chinese medicine

1. Contraindications for medication during menstruation

When taking medication during menstruation, be careful not to damage the kidney qi, spleen and stomach, or liver yin. Do not overuse pungent, bitter, cold, slippery, laxative, or blood-dissolving products. Patients with oligomenorrhea and amenorrhea should not use laxatives to hasten the onset of menstruation. Patients with menorrhagia and metrorrhagia should not insist on using astringent drugs. Instead, they should differentiate symptoms and treat them according to the cause, and use medication based on the specific cause.

2. Contraindications for medication during pregnancy

During pregnancy, any medicines that are strong, laxative, blood-clearing, qi-consuming, extremely pungent and hot, bitter, cold, icy, heavy, or poisonous should be used with caution or prohibited because they can lead to adverse consequences such as fetal movement disorder, abortion, miscarriage, malformation, and stillbirth. Drugs that are prohibited during pregnancy include: musk, centipede, leech, genkwa, gansui, euphorbia, croton, blister beetle, horsefly, pokeweed, morning glory seed, sulfur, realgar, arsenic, calomel, camphor, toad venom, earthworm, trillium, zedoaria, and bezoar.

Postpartum women lose blood and damage body fluids, so when taking medicine, you should pay attention to nourishing blood, nourishing yin and preserving body fluids. It is not advisable to overuse warm, dry, bitter, cold, strong, or sweat-inducing medicines. When relieving depression, do not be too dissipating. When promoting digestion, you must also support the spleen, replenish the deficiency without stagnating the evil, and resolve blood stasis without damaging the blood. Do not damage the spleen and stomach during breastfeeding, and refrain from taking any toxic substances.
