Reasons for excessive sweating

Reasons for excessive sweating

Excessive sweating is quite common in daily life. According to the causes of excessive sweating, it is mainly divided into physiological sweating and pathological sweating. In general, it is physiological sweating. Of course, we must be alert to pathological sweating, such as night sweats, which are often related to kidney deficiency. Other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease may also cause symptoms of sweating.

Reasons for excessive sweating

1. According to physiological and pathological classification

(1) Physiological sweating Sweating in hot weather or after strenuous exercise is a physiological phenomenon. It is a physiological function of the human body to excrete and regulate body temperature and is controlled by the sympathetic nerves in the autonomic nervous system. When the ambient temperature or body temperature exceeds the body's own temperature set point, in order to prevent the body temperature from rising further, the sympathetic nerves become excited, controlling the secretion of sweat glands. The evaporation of sweat takes away heat, thereby lowering the body temperature. The secretion of sweat glands is closely related to the intensity of exercise, and the amount of sweating varies from person to person. (2) Pathological hyperhidrosis ① Night sweats occur when one sweats unconsciously during sleep at night. ② Spontaneous sweating occurs during the day, without any cause for sweating due to labor, thick clothing or heat, or profuse sweating after a little exercise.

2. Classification by primary and secondary

Primary hyperhidrosis refers to a state of hypersecretion of sweat glands without obvious cause. It is an autonomic nervous functional disorder caused by excessive secretion of sweat glands. Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by the symptoms of hyperhidrosis caused by some neuroendocrine and other systemic diseases (such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, hypoglycemia, cardiovascular disease, respiratory failure, etc.).

3. According to the sweating part

Hyperhidrosis can be divided into systemic hyperhidrosis and local hyperhidrosis. Systemic hyperhidrosis is mostly secondary hyperhidrosis, while local hyperhidrosis is mostly primary hyperhidrosis.

What to do if you sweat too much

1. Night sweats: These people often have symptoms such as hot hands and feet, irritability, red and hot face, dry mouth and throat, etc. Chinese medicine believes that these are manifestations of yin deficiency. People of this type can choose yin-nourishing foods such as lily and pear, and eat less hot foods such as mutton, onion, scallion, ginger, garlic, etc. They can also drink water soaked with Adenophora, Ophiopogon japonicus, Schisandra chinensis or American ginseng. 2. Excessive sweating on the head. Usually men experience excessive sweating on the head and face after overeating. At the same time, they feel bloating in the upper abdomen, thirst, and don’t want to eat. This is mostly due to food accumulation, which can be relieved by reducing the amount of food intake, eating a light diet, or taking some digestive medicine. If accompanied by heavy and weak limbs, stomach bloating, nausea, fever, thick and yellow greasy tongue coating, it is a manifestation of damp heat in the spleen and stomach, and you should pay attention to a light diet. 3. Men who sweat excessively during the day often have characteristics such as physical weakness, low voice, poor appetite, and susceptibility to colds. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this is a manifestation of qi deficiency. This type of people can choose yam, soy milk, beef and mutton in their diet. They can also stew chicken or bone marrow with Codonopsis pilosula or Astragalus to nourish the body and relieve qi deficiency. You can also improve your physical fitness through soothing movements and a combination of dynamic and static exercises, such as practicing Tai Chi and Ba Duan Jin.
