Symptoms of Yang deficiency cold

Yang deficiency cold is a disease name in traditional Chinese medicine. It refers to a cold caused by the patient's poor physical constitution and the influence of wind and cold. The patient often shows symptoms of wind and cold, sometimes without fever, or with a low fever. It often causes body pain, bone soreness, dizziness and eye swelling. When yang deficiency and soreness occur, there are both external and internal causes, so it can be treated with traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions.

Symptoms of Yang deficiency cold

Symptoms include spontaneous sweating, fear of cold, and susceptibility to colds (especially in cold weather). The patient is afraid of wind and cold, has no fever or a low fever, headache and body pain, even pain in the bones and joints, or dizziness and swelling of the eyes, no sweat or spontaneous sweating, pale face, sneezing and runny nose, and coughing with thin white sputum. The tongue is pale and fat, the coating is thin, and the pulse is deep, thready and weak. The treatment should be to support yang, relieve exterior symptoms, dispel cold and expel evil. It is modified by combining Ma Huang Fu Zi Xixin Decoction with Yupingfeng Powder.

10 grams of ephedra, 12 grams of processed aconite, 5 grams of asarum, 20 grams of astragalus, 10 grams of white atractylodes, 10 grams of siler, 10 grams of ligusticum, 10 grams of chuanxiong, 10 grams of platycodon, 10 grams of kudzu root, 10 grams of notopterygium, and 3 grams of licorice. Add Pueraria lobata and Angelica dahurica for headache and body pain; add apricot kernel and white mustard seed for cough with excessive sputum; use aconite and add cinnamon bark as needed for severe aversion to cold.

Blood deficiency cold

It is more common in people with blood deficiency, postpartum women, or those suffering from blood loss. Symptoms include fever, slight aversion to wind and cold, dull complexion, dizziness and headache, no sweat or little sweat, pale lips and nails, palpitations and frequent dreams, weak voice, or cough, or thirst and dry throat. The tongue is pale with little coating, and the pulse is thready and weak. Female patients usually have scanty, light-colored menstruation. The treatment should be to nourish blood and relieve exterior symptoms, dispel wind and cold, and use Congbai Qiwei Drink and Jingfang Siwu Decoction to modify the recipe.

10 grams of Schizonepeta, 10 grams of Saposhnikovia, 15 grams of Angelica, 10 grams of Rehmannia, 12 grams of Chuanxiong, 15 grams of White Peony, 12 grams of Pueraria, 10 grams of Douchi, 6 grams of Licorice, and 12 grams of Scallion. For those with severe heat, add honeysuckle and forsythia; for cough, add almond; for thirst, add radix trichosanthis and rhizoma reeds; for palpitations and poor sleep, add seed of Chinese jujube; for severe blood deficiency, add pseudostellaria; for poor appetite, add malt and Shenqu.

Yin deficiency cold

It is often seen in people who have yin deficiency, or who are malnourished after illness, or who indulge in sexual activities and damage yin. Symptoms include fever, slight aversion to wind and cold, headache, dizziness or groggy head, little sweat and irritability, cough, thick phlegm that is difficult to cough up, or blood in the phlegm, dry throat and thirst, dry stool, or hot hands and feet, night sweats, red tongue or less tongue coating, and thin or rapid pulse. The treatment should be to nourish yin and relieve exterior symptoms, soothe wind and ventilate the lungs, and use modified Weirui Decoction.

15 grams of Polygonatum odoratum, 10 grams of Platycodon grandiflorum, 10 grams of Pleurotus ostreatus, 10 grams of Mentha suspensa, 10 grams of Douchi, 10 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus, 12 grams of Scrophularia ningpoensis, 12 grams of Scallion white, and 10 grams of Jujube. Add bamboo leaves and lotus seed cores for restlessness; add Radix Trichosanthis for severe thirst; add Belamcanda chinensis and Arctium lappa for dry throat, cough and difficulty in expectorating; add Imperata cylindrica and raw Pollen Typhae for blood in sputum; add Scrophularia ningpoensis and Radix Rehmanniae for dry stool; add Cortex Moutan for hot palms and soles and night sweats.
