Why do I feel chest tightness and weakness when it’s hot?

In many areas of our country, the weather is relatively hot. Even in winter, you may only need to wear light clothes. When the weather is particularly hot, if you stay outdoors for a long time under direct sunlight and are surrounded by stuffy air, you will definitely get heatstroke, and in severe cases you may even die. What's more, many friends said that they always feel chest tightness and fatigue when the weather is hot. What is the reason?

1. Respiratory obstruction

If a tumor grows in the trachea or bronchi, the airway is narrowed, or the trachea is under external pressure (such as an enlarged thyroid gland), it will cause airway obstruction, difficulty breathing, and symptoms of chest tightness and shortness of breath.

2. Lung disease

The occurrence of lung diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis, asthma, atelectasis, pulmonary infarction, and pneumothorax can lead to enlarged alveoli, decreased elasticity, and impaired lung function, causing symptoms such as difficulty breathing and chest tightness.

3. Insufficient blood supply to the myocardium

Coronary artery sclerosis causes coronary artery stenosis. After the artery stenosis, the blood flow and the oxygen content in the blood decrease, and the heart is prone to ischemia and hypoxia, resulting in compensatory reactions such as chest tightness and shortness of breath.

How to relieve chest tightness and shortness of breath in hot weather

1. Massaging the Neiguan point can help relieve your mood. When you turn your palm upward, you can see two tendons in the middle of your palm. The middle of the two tendons is where the Neiguan point is located. Neiguan acupoint is an important acupuncture point for heart health. It has the effect of regulating qi and relieving pain. Therefore, when you feel chest tightness and shortness of breath, it can temporarily help you regulate your breath and calm your mind.

2. There is an acupoint on the hand called Laogong, which is an acupoint on the hand Jueyin pericardium meridian. Laogong has the effect of clearing the heart and calming the mind. Make a fist with your middle finger, and the position where the tip of your middle finger presses is the Laogong point. When you feel chest tightness and shortness of breath, press the Laogong point with the thumb of your left hand and the other four fingers on the back of your hand. Press and rub the point vigorously. You will feel obvious pain. Keep doing this for one minute and you will feel that the feeling of panic disappears little by little. First massage your left hand for one minute, then switch to your right hand. It only takes a few minutes and the symptoms of chest tightness and shortness of breath will be relieved.

3. If you feel weak all over and have no strength to massage during an attack, you can find an angular place around you and press your palm on the edge. At this time, you will feel obvious pain in the Laogong point. Pressing on the sensitive area of pain can also help relieve the pain.
