There is water in the ears and it smells a bit

Ears generally do not develop diseases, so many people have no awareness of protecting their ears. In fact, it is just the opposite. Although ears are small, they are particularly important to our daily lives. If the ear becomes inflamed, there will be pain, discharge, etc., and internal inflammation will occur. Sometimes the discharge from the ear is sticky and has a foul odor, and treatment needs to be determined based on the properties of the discharged liquid. This article introduces the treatment methods for ear discharge, let’s take a look.

What to do if the water in your ears has a bad smell

What should I do if my ears are discharging water with a bad smell? Ear discharging water refers to the accumulation or outflow of fluid in the ear canal, so it is called otorrhea or otorrhea. According to the properties of the outflowing liquid, there are two types: ① Greasy: Greasy ears, commonly known as oily ears. ② Watery: The discharge from ear canal eczema is yellow, the ruptured bullous myringitis presents bloody water, simple otitis media is mostly sticky pus with a fishy smell, and cholesteatoma otitis media presents smelly pus. ③ Purulent and bloody: There are smelly pus and blood from middle ear cancer, bloody pus from otitis media, and fresh bleeding from trauma.

Excessive discharge from the ear accompanied by a foul odor is not only a manifestation of a variety of ear diseases, but must be treated according to whether there is ear pain, itching, hearing impairment, duration of the disease, nature of the discharge, and whether there is facial paralysis, combined with the findings of specialist examinations, X-rays, and CT scans to determine the location (external ear, middle ear or inner ear) and nature of the lesion, and to give the cause:

(1) Inflammation is mainly treated with anti-inflammatory agents, such as 3% hydrogen peroxide for ear washing, 2.5% chloramphenicol ear drops or 0.3% ofloxacin ear drops for otolysis. In acute cases, systemic antibiotics are also required.

(2) If caused by trauma, external ear lacerations should be sutured. If there is temporal bone fracture or craniocerebral injury, the author should consult a neurosurgeon for joint treatment. If there is cerebrospinal fluid leakage, ear canal packing is not performed.

(3) Otitis media of the edentulous type, cholesteatoma type, and middle ear cancer are mainly treated with surgery.

(4) In addition to antibacterial drugs, antiallergic drugs should also be used to treat eczema infections, such as oral antihistamines.

(5) If a lump is blocking the ear canal, it can be removed or softened by dripping 3% baking soda solution into the ear, and then flushing the ear canal after 3 days to drain it out.
