What are the traditional Chinese medicines for clearing heat and detoxification?

If you don't take good care of your body in life, it will be easy for your body to become damp and hot. If you want to clear heat and detoxify your body, you can choose appropriate Chinese medicine, such as honeysuckle, forsythia, etc. are good choices.

The nature and flavor of honeysuckle and its meridians are sweet, cold, and enter the lung, heart, and stomach meridians.

Functions and indications: Clearing away heat, detoxifying, dispersing wind and dissipating heat. Used for carbuncle, furuncle, throat congestion, erysipelas, dysentery due to heat toxin, wind-heat cold, and fever due to febrile disease.

Dosage and administration: decoction 6-15g. It is best to use the raw product to dispel wind and heat and clear internal heat, while charcoal-fried product is suitable for heat-toxic bloody dysentery.

Note: Do not use if you have spleen deficiency, coldness or want to clear pus from sores.

Forsythia

Nature and flavor: bitter, cold, enters the lung, heart and small intestine meridians.

Functions and indications: Clearing away heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling and dispersing nodules, evacuating wind-heat, used for carbuncle, scrofula, breast pain, erysipelas, wind-heat cold, the initial stage of febrile disease, warm and heat entering the blood, high fever, thirst, coma and rash, hot and painful stranguria.

Dosage and administration: decoction 6-15g.

Note: It is not suitable for people with spleen and stomach deficiency, coldness, qi deficiency and clear pus.

Andrographis paniculata

Nature and flavor: bitter, cold, enters the heart, lung, large intestine and bladder meridians.

Functions and indications: Clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood, and reducing swelling. It is used for colds and fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, sudden cough, diarrhea, dysentery, hot and painful stranguria, carbuncles, ulcers, and snake and insect bites.

Dosage and Administration: decoction of 6-9g. Decoction can easily induce vomiting, so it is often made into pills, powders, and tablets for external use in appropriate amounts.

Note: Do not take it too much or for too long, and it is not suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach.

Guanzhong

Nature and flavor: bitter, slightly cold, slightly toxic, enters the liver and stomach meridians.

Functions and indications: Clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and stopping bleeding, killing parasites. It is used for epidemic colds, wind-heat headaches, rashes caused by warm toxins, swelling and toxins in sores, metrorrhagia, and abdominal pain caused by worm accumulation.

Dosage and administration: decoction of 4-5-9g. It is suitable to be used raw for killing insects, clearing away heat and detoxifying. It is suitable to be fried into charcoal for stopping bleeding. For external use, apply in appropriate amount.

Note: This product is slightly toxic and should not be used in excessive amounts. Avoid greasy food when taking this product. People with weak spleen and stomach should not use it with caution. Pregnant women should not use it.

Nature and flavor: sweet, light, neutral, enters the liver and stomach meridians.

Smilax glabra

Functions and indications: Detoxification, removal of dampness, and unblocking of joints. It is used for limb cramps, muscle and bone pain, damp-heat stranguria, leucorrhea, carbuncle, scrofula, and scabies caused by syphilis and mercury poisoning.

Dosage and administration: decoction, 15-60g, appropriate amount for external use.

Note: People with liver and kidney yin deficiency should take this medicine with caution, and avoid drinking tea while taking the medicine.

Houttuynia cordata

Nature and flavor: spicy, slightly cold. It enters the lung meridian.

Functions and indications: Clears away heat and detoxifies, eliminates carbuncle and discharges pus, promotes diuresis and relieves stranguria, used for lung abscess and pus vomiting. Cough, wheezing and pain caused by phlegm and heat, dysentery, stranguria with heat, carbuncles, swellings and sores.

Dosage and administration: decoction 15-25g. Double the dosage of fresh product, decoct in water or mash into juice for oral administration, apply externally in appropriate amount, mash and apply or decoct into soup for fumigation and washing of affected area.

Note: This product contains volatile oil and should not be decocted for a long time. It is not suitable for people with deficiency-cold syndrome or negative sores.
