Three weeks after delivery, there is still blood in the lochia

The color of lochia discharged by women after childbirth is different from that of menstruation. The color of menstruation is generally red, while the color of lochia is dark. The time for lochia discharge is relatively long. Some people can even discharge lochia for 40 to 50 days, while some people can discharge lochia completely within two weeks. Some women will have repeated lochia. So why is there lochia and blood three weeks after childbirth?

This situation may be considered as irregular menstruation. The main causes of irregular menstruation include:

1. Neuroendocrine dysfunction;

2. Organic lesions, including local inflammation and tumors of reproductive organs, as well as developmental abnormalities, malnutrition, intracranial diseases, other endocrine dysfunctions, such as thyroid and adrenal cortex dysfunction, diabetes, liver diseases, blood diseases, etc.;

3. Related to environmental factors, drug effects, mental factors, etc. It is recommended to go to a professional hospital for relevant examinations, such as blood tests for six sex hormones, B-ultrasound, etc. After the cause of the disease is determined, symptomatic treatment should be received under the guidance of a doctor.

Simply put, it can be considered normal because menstruation is affected by factors such as emotions, medication, diet and sleep. Therefore, under normal circumstances, 7-10 days earlier or later can be considered normal. It is recommended not to put pressure on yourself during this period, and to relax and live your life, such as eating on time, resting, exercising moderately, and having an optimistic attitude.

After giving birth, under normal physiological conditions, the uterus will automatically expel the remaining blood and turbid fluid within 2-3 weeks. If lochia persists for more than 3 weeks after delivery due to dysfunction of the maternal neuroendocrine system, it is called "lochia that never stops", "lochia that never ends" or "lochia that never stops".

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the cause and pathogenesis of postpartum lochia is qi deficiency, blood heat, and blood stasis. It is recommended that lochia that persists should be treated promptly. Rest in bed, avoid emotional excitement, keep a good mood, comfort the patient, eliminate mental worries, and pay special attention to unexpected mental stimulation.
