Bone age and height

Bone age and height

There are many issues in life that need attention, especially in diet. You can't eat randomly, which is not good for your health. And choosing some food randomly will not be good for the development of all aspects of your body. For some people who like to eat greasy and spicy food, these foods don't have much effect on human nutrition, and eating too much will cause great damage to the stomach. What is the relationship between bone age and height?

Many people don't know much about bone age and height, but there is a great relationship between them. Therefore, we need to have a good understanding of the issues between them so that we know the specific relationship between them.

Bone age and height:

Due to the linear growth of bones, the cartilage at both ends of the long bones continues to grow, the epiphyseal cartilage continues to secrete osteoblasts and gradually ossifies, the bones continue to grow, and the child grows taller accordingly. After adulthood, all the epiphyseal cartilages are ossified, and the backbone and epiphysis become one, which is called epiphyseal line closure. The bones no longer grow, and people stop growing taller. Therefore, a person's height is more related to bone maturity, that is, bone age, rather than actual age. Medically, a child's growth potential can be predicted by judging the degree of skeletal maturity, and height can be predicted by bone age. This examination is a routine examination item in the pediatric endocrinology department.

Bone age cannot be determined by the naked eye and requires examination through X-rays. There are a large number of long bones and short bones concentrated in the hands and wrists, which reflect the growth and maturation of bones throughout the body. In clinical practice, wrist bone films are often used to determine bone age.

In clinical practice, the determination of bone age is of great reference significance for the diagnosis of endocrine diseases. For example, the bone age of children with growth hormone deficiency and hypothyroidism is often more than 2 years behind their actual age. After treatment, their growth is accelerated and their bone maturity also increases. The bone age of children with precocious puberty is often 1 or even 2 years older than their actual age. The bone age exceeds their age ahead of time, resulting in premature closure of the epiphysis and no further growth. Certain drug treatments for children with precocious puberty can prevent accelerated bone maturation and slow down bone age development, which is valuable for improving final height.

When faced with the problem of a child's unsatisfactory height, parents should neither rush to seek medical treatment nor let things take their own course. First, take your child to the relevant institution for examination, measure height, determine bone age, rule out diseases, and estimate potential for height growth. Then, under the guidance of a doctor, find out the adverse factors that affect the child's height growth, cultivate good living habits, and promote the child's growth through personalized comprehensive conditioning of nutrition, exercise, sleep, and emotions.

Through the above introduction, we have a great understanding of the relationship between bone age and height. When there are these problems, they must be improved directly. However, it should be noted that the best way to improve is to supplement calcium and arrange a reasonable diet, which will be of great help to the development of all aspects of the body.
