The effect of drinking Platycodon grandiflorum in water

What are the effects of drinking Platycodon grandiflorum soaked in water? Let us first understand what Platycodon grandiflorum is. Platycodon grandiflorum is a herbaceous plant and a Chinese herbal medicine. We can use Platycodon grandiflorum as food or as medicine, so Platycodon grandiflorum has high edible value and medicinal value. Platycodon grandiflorum is also very helpful for our daily health care. We can use Platycodon grandiflorum to soak in water, which has good health care functions.

Platycodon can protect our lungs. Soaking platycodon in water can help remove phlegm, and it can also treat symptoms such as hoarseness. Drinking Platycodon grandiflorum soaked in water has an anti-inflammatory effect. It can also lower our blood sugar and relieve cough and phlegm, so drinking Platycodon grandiflorum soaked in water is very effective.

1. Expectorant and antitussive effects: Oral administration of 1g/kg of the decoction of this product to anesthetized dogs can significantly increase the secretion of respiratory mucus, and its intensity is comparable to that of ammonium chloride. It also has a significant expectorant effect on anesthetized cats. It has been reported that the expectorant effect of platycodon saponins is stronger than that of Polygala tenuifolia and second only to that of Poygala senega L. The results of the mouse phenol red method test were weaker than those of Polygala tenuifolia. The saponins contained in Platycodon grandiflorum cause a certain degree of irritation to the throat mucosa and gastric mucosa when taken orally, reflexively causing hypersecretion of the respiratory mucosa, diluting the sputum and promoting its excretion. Crude Platycodon grandiflorum saponins have an antitussive effect. The median effective dose for antitussive effect after intraperitoneal injection in guinea pigs is 6.4 mg/kg.

2. Hypoglycemic effect: Oral administration of 200 mg/kg water or alcohol extract of Platycodon grandiflorum to rabbits can reduce blood sugar. The blood sugar-lowering curve of the water extract is similar to that of oral administration of 25-50 mg/kg tolbutamide. Intragastric administration of 500 mg/kg of water and alcohol extracts for 4 consecutive days also had a hypoglycemic effect on experimental alloxan diabetic rabbits. The reduced liver glycogen was also restored after medication, and the increase in food-induced blood sugar was inhibited. The effect of alcohol extracts was stronger than that of water extracts.

3. Anti-inflammatory effect: Crude platycodon saponins have anti-inflammatory effects. Oral administration of 1/10-1/5 of the median lethal dose has anti-inflammatory effects on carrageenan-induced foot swelling and acetic acid-induced swelling of the hind limbs of rats. Continuous administration of the drug once a day by intragastric administration at a dose less than 1/10 of the median lethal dose also has a significant inhibitory effect on cotton ball granuloma in rats, and is also effective against adjuvant arthritis in rats. This preparation can also reduce allergic reactions and capillary permeability in mice. The writhing reaction and abdominal exudation of mice induced by intraperitoneal injection of platycodon saponins could be inhibited by oral administration of the same saponins. Platycodon grandiflorum has no direct antibacterial effect, but its water extract can enhance the phagocytic function of macrophages and enhance the bactericidal ability of neutrophils. Increase the activity of lysozyme.

4. Effects on the circulatory system: Intravenous injection of crude platycodon saponins in rats showed a temporary decrease in blood pressure, a slowing of heart rate and respiratory depression. It has a negative inotropic effect on isolated guinea pig auricle at high concentrations. Arterial injection of 200-800 mg/kg crude platycodon saponins into anesthetized dogs can reduce the resistance of the coronary arteries and limb blood vessels and increase blood flow, with an intensity comparable to that of papaverine. When 4 mg/kg is injected intravenously, it can also increase coronary artery and hind limb blood flow, accompanied by transient hypotension. This vasodilation is thought to be a direct effect on peripheral blood vessels.

5. Inhibit gastric juice secretion and anti-ulcer effect: Crude platycodon saponin can inhibit gastric juice secretion and anti-peptic ulcer effect in rats at a dose lower than 1/5 of the half lethal dose. At a dose of 100 mg/kg, it can almost completely inhibit the gastric juice secretion caused by pyloric ligation in rats. Injection of 25 mg/kg crude platycodon saponins into the duodenum of rats can prevent the formation of peptic ulcers, and its effect is equivalent to that of subcutaneous injection of 10 mg/kg atropine. However, the preventive effect of 100 mg/kg oral gavage on the formation of stress ulcers is two times weaker than that of subcutaneous injection of 10 mg/kg atropine. For the acetic acid-induced ulcer model of rats, crude platycodon saponins can significantly reduce the ulcer coefficient, and the efficacy of the 25 mg/kg daily group is higher than that of the 200 mg/kg daily licorice extract FM100 group.

Above we introduced what Platycodon grandiflorum is. We know that Platycodon grandiflorum can be eaten or used as medicine. Platycodon grandiflorum has a very important effect. We often use Platycodon grandiflorum to make tea to achieve good health care effects. Platycodon grandiflorum tea can protect our stomach and lungs, can eliminate phlegm and relieve cough. Platycodon grandiflorum tea can lower blood sugar and has anti-inflammatory effects.
