How to prevent and first aid hypoglycemia shock

How to prevent and first aid hypoglycemia shock

Hypoglycemic shock is a coma caused by low blood sugar in the human body. Patients often experience symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, drowsiness and hunger. So how do we prevent and provide first aid for hypoglycemia shock?

First aid measures:

1. Absolute bed rest and rapid replenishment of glucose are the key to determining prognosis. Timely sugar supplementation will completely relieve the symptoms; delayed treatment will cause irreversible brain damage. Therefore, it should be emphasized that when hypoglycemia occurs, any substance with high sugar content, such as biscuits, juice, etc., should be given immediately. Patients with severe symptoms should be careful to prevent food from being accidentally inhaled into the lungs and choking into the trachea, causing aspiration pneumonia or atelectasis.

2. For patients with hypoglycemia who can eat by themselves, the diet should be low in sugar, high in protein, and high in fat, with small meals and frequent meals. If necessary, sugar should be added to the drink once at midnight.

3. Intravenous injection of 40-60 ml of 50% glucose is the most common and effective method for hypoglycemia rescue. If the condition is not serious, the symptoms can be relieved quickly and consciousness can be restored immediately.

Precautions:

1. Avoid excessive fatigue and strenuous exercise, and eat three meals a day on time.

2. Patients who are using insulin should strictly calculate the dosage ratio of regular insulin and long-acting insulin. Closely monitor the use of oral sugar medications and make timely adjustments if hypoglycemia is detected.

3. If you find that you have a lot of urine and sugar in your urine during the day, and often have hypoglycemia at night, you should check whether the injection site is caused by poor absorption and change the injection site.

4. People with diabetes should carry some fruit candies, biscuits and other foods with them.
