Farting but not defecating after appendectomy

Anyone who has had surgery knows that postoperative care is very important because surgery is very harmful to the body. However, you cannot eat immediately after the operation because you need to get your body's circulation back on track. Although appendectomy is a minor operation, it should not be taken lightly. Is it normal to fart but not poop after appendectomy surgery? This is normal and you can eat after ventilation.

1. Appendicitis surgery will involve intestinal disturbance, so the intestines will experience intestinal paralysis for a period of time after the operation, and you will not be able to defecate. You can take some laxatives appropriately, or observe for a few days. Once the symptoms of intestinal paralysis disappear, you will generally be able to defecate normally.

2. After appendicitis surgery, the doctor will forbid the patient to eat until the patient farts. This is to ensure that the patient does not have intestinal adhesions after the surgery. Intestinal adhesion may cause constipation. If you experience constipation for a long time, you should communicate with your doctor and seek timely treatment to avoid serious consequences. If you have passed gas but still do not have a bowel movement, it may be because you have eaten less food and exercised less after the surgery, resulting in abnormal bowel movements. If the duration is not long, you can observe. If it is longer, you need to adjust your medication and diet, and do reasonable exercise. When the doctor allows you to get out of bed and move around, you should do moderate exercise. Exercise can help intestinal peristalsis and defecation.

3. For constipation that is not caused by intestinal adhesion, you can appropriately add some foods that help defecation to the patient, such as letting the patient eat more sweet potatoes, bananas, etc., and drinking some carrot soup can also help defecation. You can also do some abdominal massage without irritating the wound, which has a certain effect on defecation.

It is very common to have no bowel movements after appendectomy surgery, so patients should not worry too much, especially those who are already ventilated. The reason for not having a bowel movement is not the sequelae of surgical failure such as intestinal adhesions. Appropriate exercise and improved diet can relieve the symptoms. Some patients suffer from constipation, so they can tell their doctor to prescribe some medicine to help intestinal peristalsis and defecation. If you are unable to defecate for a long time, please go to the hospital for treatment.
