What causes a stye? How to protect yourself?

Stye, also known as sty and hordeolum, is an acute suppurative inflammation of the sebaceous glands or meibomian glands near the eyelash follicles. The symptoms include small boils on the eyelids, slight itching, local redness, swelling, heat and pain. So what causes stye?

Find the cause:

Stye, commonly known as sty, is an acute suppurative inflammation of the sebaceous glands or meibomian glands near the eyelash follicles and is a common eye disease in children. The eyelids have the ability to defend against invasion by external pathogens. However, children have poor immune function and weak resistance to infection. In addition, they are active by nature and often rub their eyes with dirty hands, so bacteria can take advantage of the situation and enter the eyes. Stye is mostly caused by purulent inflammation.

Note maintenance:

Local eye drops can be used, generally 0.25% chloramphenicol eye drops are used. If there is a lot of secretions, rifampicin eye drops are more effective. Gentomycin eye ointment can be applied after the child falls asleep. Systemic and local use of antibiotics can also promote the disappearance of inflammation.

In the early stages of a stye, hot compresses can be applied three times a day for about 20 minutes each time. This can promote blood and lymph circulation, dissipate swelling, and improve the child's pain symptoms. Mild inflammation can completely disappear after hot compresses.

Eat more fruits and vegetables, drink more water, and avoid spicy and irritating foods.

Once a pus head appears, go to the hospital in time for incision and drainage, and do not wait until it breaks on its own. This can reduce the child's pain and shorten the treatment period. Do not squeeze it with your hands or pick it with an unsterilized needle to avoid spreading the infection.

Pay attention to the cleanliness of your hands. Face washing utensils, pillowcases, pillowcases, etc. need to be boiled in boiling water for half an hour to disinfect them, or they can be exposed to the sun.

Strengthen prevention:

Pay attention to eye hygiene and develop good hygiene habits. Do not wipe or rub your eyes with your hands or dirty towels. Rubbing your eyes can cause mechanical damage to the eyes and spread pathogenic microorganisms, causing infectious eye diseases.

The diet should be light, eat more vegetables and fruits, and eat less spicy and irritating foods such as onions, leeks, and garlic. These foods will cause heat and toxins to attack the body and go up to the eyes, causing infectious eye diseases. You can drink appropriate amounts of honeysuckle dew, mung bean soup, etc. to reduce heat and disinfect.

Get enough sleep and don't overstrain your eye muscles. Exercise more often to improve the body's disease resistance.

During the season when eye diseases are prevalent, you should avoid going to crowded public places and swimming in public swimming pools less often. After swimming, you should use eye drops to prevent infection.
