What are the symptoms of concussion?

Concussion is often caused by accidental collisions and injuries. Patients with concussion may experience palpitations, shortness of breath, or pale complexion. Some may also experience nausea, vomiting, and forgetfulness, and need serious treatment.

1. Autonomic dysfunction: Some patients have palpitations, shortness of breath, pale complexion, sweating, cold limbs, etc., and no positive signs are seen in neurological examination.

2. Nausea and vomiting : Most people stop vomiting after a few times, while a few recover after a few days. Most people stop vomiting after a few times, but a few recover after a few days.

3. Retrograde amnesia : People with concussion cannot recall what happened at the time of the injury after waking up from the impact. The degree of amnesia is proportional to the severity of the concussion.

4. Impairment of consciousness : Some people will suddenly lose consciousness after being hit, but the time is not very long, usually more than an hour.

5. Headache and dizziness : may be aggravated by emotional tension or moving the head or changing body position. They usually disappear on their own after 3 to 5 days, but in a few patients they may persist for a longer period of time.

6. Transient brainstem symptoms : Impairment of consciousness occurs immediately after trauma to the head, manifested as confusion or complete coma, lasting for several seconds, minutes or tens of minutes, but generally not more than half an hour. The patient may also experience symptoms such as pale complexion, sweating, decreased blood pressure, slow heartbeat, shallow and slow breathing, decreased muscle tone, and slow or absent various physiological reflexes. In most patients with reversible mild concussion, the central nervous system function recovers rapidly from bottom to top, from the cervical spinal cord-medulla oblongata-brainstem to the cerebral cortex; while in irreversible severe concussion, it may be a top-down inhibition process, which interrupts the function of the medullary respiratory center and circulatory center for too long, thus leading to death.
