Disorders that cause blood in stool

1. Hemorrhoids

Blood in the stool usually occurs during or after defecation, and appears as drops or sprays of blood. The blood is bright red and does not mix with the stool. Hemorrhoids cause bleeding in the stool. When patients with hemorrhoids defecate, fresh blood is often mixed with feces. Sometimes it is accompanied by prolapse of hemorrhoids, forming edema, and pain may occur when incarcerated. Severe hemorrhoids may lead to anemia.

2. Anal fissure

Anal fissures cause blood in the stool, which is bright red and has blood stains after dripping or wiping with toilet paper. There is also severe anal pain after defecation.

3. Rectal and Colon Polyps

The blood is bright red, painless, and does not mix with stool. Stool bleeding caused by rectal polyps and sigmoid colon polyps. There is fresh blood or dark red blood on the stool after defecation, and rectal polyps are occasionally accompanied by polyp prolapse.

4. Ulcerative colitis

The bleeding is mixed with mucus or appears as bloody and pus in the stool, accompanied by abdominal pain, fever, frequent bowel movements, etc.
