What mouthwash to use for periodontitis

Periodontitis is a relatively common dental disease. After suffering from periodontitis, in addition to certain anti-inflammatory treatments, you should pay more attention to oral hygiene. You can choose some mouthwashes with antibacterial effects. We know that there are many types of mouthwashes. At this time, you can choose mouthwashes with therapeutic effects, which can inhibit the growth of bacteria and achieve good auxiliary effects in the treatment of periodontal disease.

What mouthwash to use for periodontitis

1. Choice of mouthwash

There are many types of mouthwash, but they can be roughly divided into two types, namely health care and therapeutic (drug) types. Health-care type mouthwash is more easily accepted by us because its main ingredient is oral freshener, which is used to remove bad breath and has no restrictions on use. However, therapeutic (medicinal) mouthwashes, because they contain more chemical ingredients, long-term use can lead to an imbalance of oral flora and even stain the teeth and oral mucosa, reduce the taste buds, and inhibit the secretion of saliva, causing a variety of uncomfortable symptoms. Therefore, it must be selected and used under the guidance of a doctor.

Note: Mouthwashes on the market marked with the "Xiao" number are also considered medicinal mouthwashes (this is because it is difficult for manufacturers to declare them as medicines, so they turn to declare the "Xiao" number). Buyers must pay attention.

2. How to use mouthwash

Hold clean water in your mouth and puff up your cheeks so that the water can fully contact your teeth and gums in your mouth. Use the water force to repeatedly rinse various parts of your mouth to remove as much food debris as possible. Then, add about 10 ml of mouthwash and rinse your mouth for another minute using the above method. Do not rinse your mouth with clean water after rinsing.

3. Precautions for using mouthwash

① Whether it is a health-care or therapeutic mouthwash, it should not be used every day like toothpaste. In particular, therapeutic mouthwash should be used with caution to avoid causing oral flora imbalance or other side effects.

② In order to save time, some people simply give up brushing their teeth and only rinse their mouths with mouthwash. This practice is incorrect. Although gargling can remove food debris and some soft plaque in the mouth, it is far less thorough than brushing your teeth. The main purpose of brushing teeth is to remove dental plaque attached to the surface of teeth. In this process, the most important role is played by the physical friction of the toothbrush. Mouthwash does not have this effect and therefore cannot completely remove dental plaque.

③ Children should use with caution: Especially for young children who cannot control the swallowing action, swallowing mouthwash by mistake can cause danger.
