What to do if your jaw muscles hurt

Some people feel pain when eating, and they dare not chew or open their mouths vigorously. This is mainly due to pain in the masseter muscles. In more serious cases, facial swelling may also occur. When this kind of pain occurs, you must emphasize care and go to the hospital for film examination in time to see if there is any lesion in the mandibular joint or if there is any bone lesion. It can be treated in time through certain physical therapy.

What to do if your jaw muscles hurt

Method 1: The patient has pain in the masseter muscles on the left side of his face and cannot open his mouth wide, but there is no obvious pain in the teeth and the face is slightly swollen. The patient should take an X-ray to rule out mandibular joint lesions and bone lesions, and make a clear diagnosis before further treatment.

Method 2: Go to the hospital for a confirmed diagnosis. Physical therapy can be effective and intravenous infusion is required if necessary. The most important thing is not to eat hard objects or anything that requires increased bite force within a week. The number of times you open your mouth should also be reduced appropriately to facilitate the subsidence of inflammatory edema. If not treated in time, some patients will suffer from sequelae of limited mouth opening.

Method three: Traditional Chinese medicine ginger moxibustion is very effective in treating toothache, 1 piece of fresh ginger and 2 to 3 pieces of moxa. Cut fresh ginger slices into the size of a five-cent coin, place them on the Hegu point or the toothache point (the 3rd and 4th metacarpal bones on the palm, 1 inch away from the palm print), place the moxa stick on the ginger slices, and apply moxibustion for 2 to 3 times. For toothache on the left side, apply moxibustion to the right side acupoints; for toothache on the right side, apply moxibustion to the left side acupoints.

How to reduce the size of the masseter muscle

The problem of a larger masseter muscle is usually caused by using too much force and for too long, so you need to pay attention to choosing smaller and easier-to-chew foods when eating, or directly choosing porridge foods that do not require chewing. You should also pay more attention to massaging your face, which will make your face look smaller, that is, the position of the masseter muscle will look smaller.

1. Regular facial massage can help speed up blood circulation in the face and burn fat, eliminating facial fat during the massage.

2. Exercise your face: Many people don’t understand what it means to exercise your face. In fact, frequently opening your mouth and then closing it is exercising your face. Even squinting your eyes is also considered exercising your face, which is also beneficial to the dissolution of facial fat.
