Does a fracture have a big impact on a person's life?

Many friends will ask: "Does a fracture have a big impact on a person's life?" In fact, the impact of a fracture on a person depends on whether there are sequelae. Fracture is not a serious disease, but it cannot be completely ignored. It requires active treatment and proper care measures. Of course, we should not exaggerate the impact of fractures. After the fracture heals, it will not affect daily life. In order to better recover from fractures, let’s learn relevant knowledge together.

1. Emergency treatment after fracture

1. Actively rescue patients in coma or shock.

2. Closely observe changes in the condition and pay attention to the treatment of combined injuries.

3. Open fractures should be cleaned first and then reduced.

4. For those with severe limb swelling, temporary external fixation should be performed first, and the affected limb should be elevated, and then repositioned after the swelling subsides.

5. After fixation with a small splint, the affected limb should be elevated and attention should be paid to blood circulation. The tightness should be adjusted in time and regular check-ups should be conducted.

6. Scientific functional exercises should be performed 1 to 2 weeks after injury to promote blood circulation, reduce swelling, prevent joint stiffness and muscle atrophy, and perform small-amplitude exercises in the form of muscle contraction and relaxation. Two weeks after the mid-term injury, the swelling subsides, the damaged tissue begins to repair, and the fracture becomes increasingly stable. In addition to the above exercises, the joints above and below the fracture should be gradually exercised during this period, and the range of motion, frequency and strength of motion should be increased as clinical healing approaches. 7 to 10 weeks after the late injury, the fracture has achieved clinical healing and most of the joint function has recovered. The patient can do some outdoor activities and work and housework within his ability. He can also cooperate with massage, physical therapy or external use of Chinese medicine to promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and relax muscles and tendons.

2. Postoperative Nutritional Supplementation

1. Patients with mild fractures can take food orally in the early stage after fixation surgery. However, when choosing food, it is required to be high in protein, fat, carbohydrates, and rich in vitamins and minerals to facilitate the repair and healing of fractures.

2. Patients with more severe fractures present with multiple fractures, or open fractures with heavy bleeding, or more severe soft tissue contusions. The patient's consumption increases significantly, and gastrointestinal function may also be affected. Intravenous nutritional therapy may be considered, which is beneficial for wound healing and complication control. After the condition improves and stabilizes, the patient can gradually transition to oral feeding and reduce the dosage of parenteral nutrition preparations until they are finally discontinued.

3. Due to reduced activity, loss of appetite and weakened digestive function of postoperative patients, oral food intake should be adjusted according to the patient's taste and eating habits, and should be supplied as much as possible.

4. After fixation surgery for trauma such as fractures, the repair and growth of tissues will consume more minerals and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc. You should pay attention to supplementing them through veins or food.
