What to do if breast engorgement and pain occur after giving birth

After giving birth, some women will experience breast pain, which is quite common. It is mainly due to lack of experience in feeding the baby, resulting in poor milk secretion and even breast blockage, which can cause breast pain. At this time, you can use a hot towel to apply heat, which is a good method to promote milk secretion. You can also use massage. If the condition is more serious, you should take medication in time.

What to do if breast engorgement and pain occur after giving birth

1. You can cover it with a hot towel, or you can ask your husband to help suck hard to clear the blocked nipple opening. If the treatment effect is not good, it is recommended to use the kneading and milk discharge method for treatment.

2. First, apply a small amount of lubricant on the affected breast skin, and support the affected breast with your left hand.

3. Then use the four fingers of your right hand (from the index finger to the little finger) to push, knead and press to clear the nodules and lumps in the affected breast. Then use the five fingertips of your right hand to follow the radial direction of the milk duct from the base of the breast to the areola, gently knead and grab to clear the milk stasis.

4. Finally, pinch the areola and nipple of the affected side with the index finger and middle finger of your right hand, and gently lift them outwards continuously, and the congested milk will spray out.

How to relieve breast engorgement after giving birth

1. Soak in warm water. If conditions permit, you can take a hot bath. If it really doesn't work, you can get a basin of hot water and place it on a low table or chair (stool), then slowly bend your upper body so that your breasts can be soaked in the basin, then gently shake your breasts to allow the force to slowly flow out the milk.

2. Take a hot bath. When your breasts are really painful, it is better to take a hot shower and gently massage your breasts while showering. Massage is beneficial to activate breast blood vessels and help relieve breast swelling and pain. However, don't stay in the bathroom for too long just for the sake of comfort. If you catch a cold during the early breastfeeding period, it will not be good for both the mother and the baby.

3. Apply cold compress. If breast pain has reached an unbearable level, you may want to try cold compresses. Wet a towel with cold water and apply it to your breasts. The cool sensation of the cold water can relieve pain, but you must remember to squeeze out the milk before applying the cold compress, and make sure to use cold water, not ice water. The cold water is just the right amount of chilliness.

Breast engorgement and pain are very uncomfortable. If not dealt with in time, it is easy to dry up the milk, and then there will not be enough for the baby to eat. We now advocate breast milk, so if mothers experience milk engorgement, they must discharge it in time. It is a bit painful and difficult to let the milk flow in the beginning, but after this period of adjustment, everything will be fine.
